Guys I don't know what to do about my fall schedule :(

this is killing me.

I'm taking o-chem and physics next semester.

o-chem is from 7:30 am to 9:30. lab is then either from 9:30-12:30 or come back later from 2-5 pm.

physics is from 12:30-2 pm and lab is from 2-5 pm or i can take it before lecture from 9:30-12:30.

so as you can see I have a huge problem here. both classes are on tues/thurs. So no matter how I arrange that, there's no way I can avoid waking up at 6:30 and not finishing class until 5 pm. With absolutely no breaks in between. One class after another. That's 11 straight hours of being in a classroom. For TWO classes. That doesn't even factor in the other classes I have to take.

I don't know if I want to do this. It has nothing to do with the course load, this is just really, really terrible scheduling. I am thinking about dropping one of those courses but it's going to mess up my entire program and the plan I made out to graduate on time. What should I do?

you cant swap one of the courses for another one you’re taking in the spring?

unfortunately not. even though the college i go to has a lot of students, not enough people take these classes so only 1 semester at a time is offered (in other words, you can only take o-chem I in fall and o-chem II in spring) same with physics. so if i don’t take let’s say physics now in the fall, then i’ll have to wait an entire year to take it and it messes up my entire schedule.

Does your school offer a summer session? If so, you may want to consider staying at your school for one summer and take the physics class then. That is, if your school offers Physics in the summer.

I get that those certain classes are both only offered in the fall, but the lecture is only offered in ONE time slot?

You probably don’t have labs twice a week, right? You’ll probably have lab only once a week, so it won’t be that bad.

omg wow i totally missed that on my schedule, lab is only once a week. phew. guess that does lighten things a bit.

I’m sure you can sign up for one lab on Tuesday and one lab on Thursday. Then just take the rest of your classes on MWF. That will give you a pretty normal schedule.

Sometimes it may not even be that. The intro physics classes at my school have “weekly” labs, but they don’t always meet every week.

heh thats nothing, i had to wake up at 5:30am to share a car to commute further to school then stay at school till class ended at 9:30 pm. 3 times a week.

and the other 2 days were still filled with more classes

(and yes to others, labs do almost always end VERY early)

I’ve never taken a lab before but I have heard people mention about getting done with labs early- so maybe you won’t have to stay that late every day?

Is there anyway you can take the lecture part online? Maybe even hybrid?

Don’t count on getting out of lab early. It’s highly variable, moreso with physics (personally, my physics labs often got out either early or on time). But organic chem labs almost always took longer than the allotted time, sometimes as much as 30 minutes longer. It’s certainly possible that your labs will be different, but it’s best not to get your hopes up.

Yeah, at least at my school, the intro physics labs weren’t very serious and were instead designed as an opportunity for students to get accustomed to physical phenomena.

The chemistry labs, probably because they serve as vocational training for chemists, are pretty serious.

Physics and o-chem are unpopular? Where are the pre-meds at your school?
