GW is my dream school!!! I think I have a good chance but im kind of borderline so who knows. Also what are my chances of a scholarship/financial aid?

@anoosha i mean I’m just another random 17 year old but i got in ED1 and id say you have a GREAT change of getting in. your application is amazing, its totally obvious your dream is in politics and you’re extremely dedicated

@aaaahhhh4444 What do you think of my resume? I am interested in Political Science

From NJ
GPA: 3.7 Unweighted
SAT: 1250 (should I not send it?)
EC’s:
Intern with State Senator
Intern with Congressman
Eagle Scout
NJ Boys State
NJ DECA Chapter President
Model United Nations - Member, Competitor, Secretary
NJ American Legion Oratorical Contest Winner on County level

Recommendations:
-I got a rec letter from my DECA Advisor, I had him for a Business class as well. He speaks very highly of me so I think it was an amazing letter.
-My other letter was from an AP Gov teacher from Junior year. She was really great and liked me in class. I think this rec letter was a good letter (not as great as the one above).
-I got a 3rd rec letter from my State Senator that I interned with. He was really great. I worked really hard (I basically became a staff member because I worked so much. Other staffers said that I was basically staff too). I hope this letter goes a long way with GW.
-I have a great relationship with my Guidance Counselor and I think she wrote a great recommendation.

@CollegeApplier57 Don’t send in any scores that will bring their average down for SAT/ACT scores. That’s what they really care about. That’s why it’s optional now.

ok i got accepted but now i’m worried looking at everyone else’s scores and activities on here?? I know that since I got in it means I would fit in academically, but most of you guys seem really intense with your APs and IBs and 5+ political clubs. I don’t even want to major in anything relating to politics.

I will say from what I know about the school that it is very political because it is in D.C. but it is ok that you are not into politics. Frankly, I would think that most of their applicants are for Poli Sci and IR which are obviously competitive majors there, whereas other majors are still very strong at GW but not as competitive. You got in, so do not stress about it too much. As far as I know, it is of moderate academic difficulty. Not too hard, not too soft. I am speaking as a very passionate GW applicant but not as a student, so this info is all from what I have researched essentially. @aaaahhhh4444

@mcfreakinout So do you think I can get in with the stats, EC’s, and recs that I have without submitting my SAT?

@CollegeApplier57 So, I got a 27 ACT which is on the lower 25% of what GW accepts. That means only 25% of people are accepted with a score on the lower spectrum. If I got a 26, I would not submit that if that makes sense. Because that would lower their ACT average, and they want to be able to say that the school has a high average. Around 40% of students do not send in their scores. I kind of had to because my GPA is a 3.6 weighted and it decreased from a 3.9 since freshman year. I’ll be frank and say that the absolute THING that got me in was my essay and supplement. Completely.

1280-1440 is their SAT range. I would suggest you not send in your score even though it’s a good score. It just isn’t within their range and might impact their decision. They promote their scores for a reason. You look good on paper, and really that’s all that matters. I only had four extracurricular activities, three of which were apart of a study abroad program I did two years back. The fourth was simply me taking six art classes. A person like me can get in and a person with a 4.0 and 34 ACT may not. Take the shot anyway.

@aaaahhhh4444 Okay! So, hi. Um, I have a 3.6 weighted GPA which used to be a 3.9 my freshman year. It just went down each year. Yikes. I also made a 27 on the ACT. I’m not involved in clubs. I’ve been a rocky student with my teachers. I don’t do extracurriculars. I got in based on my essay and supplement, both of which you have full control over no matter the time in your life. You can definitely do it. Please don’t feel discouraged. I did take two AP classes junior year and two this year but I definitely did not get A’s in them.

Also, being interested in another school/major is a huge plus for you actually. Most people are applying to Elliot, and so they have more room for those who want business or music. You can get in if I can! I’m sure you’re a much better student.

@aaaahhhh4444 Oh, sorry! You got in! Yay!!! But don’t feel discouraged at all! Just think of it as a chance to take in a fresh new breath of air and pursue your goals alongside other people also wanting to improve themselves. Everyone is different. Don’t worry! See you next year!

@mcfreakinout What did you write about in your college essay? And what about your supplement? I chose the “what would I change about history” prompt.

@aaaahhhh4444 thank you so much!!! it means a lot coming from someone who has already got in. i hope to follow in your footsteps

hi guys i was the same as @mcfreakinout ! i was wayyyy below GW’s average in every category. i had lots of AP’s but didn’t get all A’s in them. I was mostly a A-/B+ students with a few C’s here and there in STEM classes over the years. The absolute only reason why i just got in was my essay and my resume. I had like a 3.2 unweighted but I had a ridiculous amount of extracurriculars and an life story that set me apart. i am also a gap yr student and i have done a whole lot since August when i could have been matriculating at another university. basically GW isnt always about the numbers if you find a way to let your essay really showcase who you are and why you are different. different doesnt mean just mean president of this or that club. different means how have you made a difference in your community? what have you overcome? so you either have to have the grades farrr above their averages or you have to have the story to explain why all that doesnt matter and why you’ll be successful anyways. hope that helps anyone!

Accepted into Elliot 2023!! I Got 1380 on my SAT but I didnt sent it and because I am an international school I did IB. I picked Economics, Chinese, and Chemistry as my HL subjects and English A, Math, and History as my SL Subjects. I was predicted a 39/42 for my core subjects and 41/45 for my total score. My cumulative GPA is 3.75 out of 4. Did anyone get scholarships in their offers?

@gwu2023yay Yeah I got a scholarship for $10,000 a year! Wbu?

@AceKiwi No I didnt :frowning: But I was wondering will there be a way for me to apply for scholarships even after getting an offer?

@gwu2023yay I don’t think that you can apply for any other scholarship through GW, but outside of the school there are a lot of options.

got accepted into GW’s business school for '23 ED but tuition is 70k+ including aid. rip hell nah

In

I got accepted into the Elliot School of IA. How exactly am I supposed to log into GWeb for the first time? I am not quite sure of my GWeb ID. How do I find it?
