GW Class of 2019 Regular Decision

I got one. 2200 SAT and 3.82 UW gpa, 4.73 W. I live near GW.

Like Letters have nothing to do with financial aid. These letters are given out ahead of time to entice student candidates that a school wants in their community. These students usually bring something special to the table that that school is looking for. Many times they don’t only have the stats but also special resumes…

My stats are right up there with some of you who posted and I have pretty good ECs and essays but I didn’t get one  but congrats to everyone who did! I just wonder how they decide who gets them and who doesn’t

My daughter got one! Very exciting!! When do the actual decisions come out?

I got mine today! I live in southeastern PA. 2150 SAT, 3.95 UW GPA, 4.85 W GPA. 7 APs total throughout the four years of high school. A ton of extracurriculars / leadership positions. While it’s really nice to know I’m in, I would need a significant merit scholarship to afford GW. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. !!

AND if anyone’s wondering, this is what the letter said exactly:

"Dear [my name],

We just couldn’t wait to tell you! We read your application and you impressed us. Based on what we learned about you, you are very likely to receive good news from GW later on this month.

If you want to start planning a visit to campus, you might want to come on one of our Inside GW admitted days, scheduled for April 10, 13, 17, 20, and 24.

So, enjoy the rest of your year. Sit back, relax, and look for the big blue envelope in your mailbox in a few weeks!

With lots of excitement,
Karen Stroud Felton
Dean of Admissions"

how cute!

If a school wants a particular student in their community, wouldn’t they offer more aid?

I got a letter today too! Congrats to everyone else! So does the letter mean I’m in or is there still a chance I could get denied? I just don’t want to prematurely celebrate…

Don’t worry you’re in! They’re just not officially allowed to tell you, so they have to make it sound like its still on the brink, but really you’re in

D got likely letter (more of a folded post card) today too - same as posted previously. 2310 SAT, 4.242 UW GPA, 4.635 Weighted GPA, most rigorous AP schedule possible at school, 4 year varsity athlete, many ECs including leadership, musician.

Likely letter as well! 2190 SAT, 3.9 UW GPA, Nevada.

@Dungareedoll - Absolutely; the stats don’t tell it all. I feel like personal traits and accomplishments come into play more than just SATs/etc. I put into my essays that I have a passion for Classical Chinese, and I’d at least like to think that schools like GWU evaluate something personal that means a lot to me over my test scores.

To everyone who received a letter - do you think you’ll go?? Perhaps we’ll all be classmates.

I didn’t get a likely letter, so was I probably rejected considering the decisions come out next week and so they probably know everyones fate? Sigh.

@Dahsksuebxmap‌ not true! They only send likely letters to a small percentage of students they accept—there’s really no rhyme or reason for it, so don’t lose hope!

@Doxology‌ I got one and GW is probably my top outside of Harvard, which I’ll hear back from March 31st, but that’s a long, long shot so as long as scholarships work out, looks like I’ll be living in DC next year!

Yay! Got the likely letter! Does anyone know if scholarships come on the usual regular decision date??

Beatles- You would think that but they definitely don’t always do that. Four years ago my S was going through this college process and he received “likely letters” to Duke and a few other big name schools that he applied to. We are not eligible for financial aid, so like you, I thought for sure that they would send him some merit money, but we received nothing across the board.

EABS- Like Letters have nothing to do with the RD decision letters. Again these letters are for just a few applicants that they really want to entice. Although I feel like Beatles, if you want me that bad, then give me MONEY!!! Its nice to know a school considers you special and a top or prime applicant but “show me the money”

@Dungareedoll‌ yeah I agree. Although getting a likely letter is really exciting, I’m still waiting nervously for the official letter because I really need a merit scholarship

I got a letter yesterday too! My GPA and SAT scores are good, just not as good as everyone else who commented… I guess my EC’s, Essays, and recommendations must have helped!

Received a likely today! Congrats to everyone who did as well!

Just to address sentiments expressed by other posters, not receiving a likely is super normal and does NOT mean you will not be accepted. CC posters are typically very qualified applicants, and so it is going to have a larger concentration of likely letters than a general applicant pool. So keep your heads up until decision day; I hope all of you get in!
