Can anyone tell me the app essay topic for 2005? Son is trying to work on essays this summer and wonders about general subject matter.

One of the essays will definitely be on "Why GW?" and the other is different each year. Really focus on the "Why GW?" essay, especially if you son is RD. GW is paranoid that students are using it as a safety or are applying to GW along with tons of other schools and that students don't really have valid reasons for attending.

It depends on whatever individual school you are applying to. The SMPA has its own essay, as does the Eliot school, the accelerated MD program, etc. For Columbian, the one I applied to, I had to write a 'why GW' essay and sent my common app essay as well. Learn to love the common app!

Actually, the essays are all the same unless you are applying to SMPA or a special program. I applied to The Elliot School and wrote a "Why GW?" essay.

Very helpful. Thanks so much.

Sorry I am just not positive on what you mean. I myself went on the website of GW and I tried to access an application and what not to see the essays that I have to write. My major is going to be Journalism but even so I am not even sure what schools GW has (I am visiting on the 26th). I am guessing a liberal arts/ communication school there?? Anyway, I am not sure of the essays now that I would have to write. I of course have already the essay thats 500 words or less on an experience blah blah blah.. but this "Why GW".. do I have to do that? And if I do, does it have to be 500 words or less? Thank you.
