GWU vs Coloardo Boulder

im considering ed 2 to gwu. afraid i wont get in regular.

heres the problem. finances arent really an issue, but id like to save money if possible.

colorado - good IR program - i like outdoorsy. -lots of kids - easy classes - signifigantly cheaper

gwash - good IR program - city like (which is fine) - still decent amount of kids - more expensive.

what im wondering is. does undergrad matter when pursuing a IR or International Business degree. if i can get into a good grad school will that be more important. go to colorado then georgetown/tufts/columbia etc etc. or do you need to go somewhere great (gwash) for undergrad. so what do you think?

Well first of all, I think University of Denver is better than Colorado Boulder when it comes to IR programs (DU has a higher ranking). And GWU doesn’t just have a “good” IR program, they have a great one. Better than Boulder by a long shot. If you can’t afford GWU, then University of Boulder would probably be good for undergrad. But I know that GWU gives out lots of aid, so if you really want to compare then just apply RD for GW and compare how much money they give you THEN see if Boulder is less expensive.

Part of GWU’s philosophy is that ‘the city (Washington, D.C.)’ is an extension of the school. They’re big on internships. The IR experience along with internships can be a fairly intense one. Also metro/city living is a bit numbing on the senses over the long-run as well.

That being said, and taking into account rokAng3l’s observation on UDenver, Colorado Boulder will give you a unique college experience. Big time sports and a beautiful campus and surrounding. At CU, you can still intern in IR over the summers and take advantage of a top-notch university.

As you noted, grad school is really where you get your IR chops. If you want to increase your chances at Colorado for IR grad admittance, be sure to check out their [honors program](Arts and Sciences Honors Program | University of Colorado Boulder).

Overall, CU is a great value. I recommend you do visit and meet one-on-one with the IR department head and other professors.

BTW, If you’re looking for other top-notch IR departments, consider Boston College, Boston Univ., Syracuse (undergrad IR is very good–chances to interact with Maxwell grad studnets), Lehigh (top notch undergrad program), Ohio State (has a great IR department, both undergrad and grad), American Univ. and Tufts.

So HAbassi28, what did you wind up doing? GW and Boulder are such different places. Good Luck.

20,000 Presidential Scholarship. Worked at the White House. Studied in the Library of Congress. Not a dollar or a moment wasted.

Boulder? What? I’ve never heard anyone compare the two.

Look, go where you get the largest scholarship. It’s just a BA. Do you plan to work in humanitarian aid or similar? If so, it’s not a good idea to pay $200,000 to go to GW. If you want law school, go to GW. If you want traditional ‘fun’ campus with an outdoors-y life, go to Boulder. If you want city and internships and similar, go to GW. I would choose based on price.
