When filling out the HAAS SELF-REPORTED ACADEMIC RECORD does Dept Name and
Course Number = Bus A100H ? or is it something else?

You guys will get in. no worries!

@ Investment

You really have given a lot of good insights. If we do get in, I will definitely like to meet you.

I applied to Haas for Fall 2011. I am not usually into internet forum but here are my “stats”

GPA:4.0, no W’s or P/NP class
Pre-reqs: All completed
Breadth: 2 breadth for Spring
EC’s:very special

I have done A LOT of volunteer work for a nonprofit film production company, and this organization is very special for me since it relates to some of the challenges that I had to overcome (don’t want to be too specific)

By challenges, I mean though challenges, life-threatening challenges, not some “I didn’t get into the football team and my heart was broken”… but I didn’t want to use some events that I went through to tell the Admission Officer," hey I almost got killed and my sister was raped by 10 guys, therefore you should accept me". Actually, I think I understated tremendously what I went through in life in my application… It sucks but there are things that you can’t tell in 500 words, or even in 10000 for that matter, you’ve got to see the person’s face, and that’s why I am into films, anyway…

I am also a Latino, proud US citizen but born and raised in Europe, first-generation, cali resident.

I interned for two well respected banks. One was for a pwm internship, which was very interesting and at a Bulge Bracket. The other bank is also well-known.

I thought I was done with all my classes so I talked to a founder of a NYC boutique investment bank and got an internship for the spring but unfortunately, I still have to take classes at SMC…

Haas is a fantastic school, I love it, the Dean seems very involved and inspiring. If I have the chance to be accepted, I would love to meet the new transfers before classes start. just send me a message!

^ Looks like you are in. Because of your ethnicity, gpa, ECs and finished prereqs. How did you manage to do them all at the same time?

Well, I know people who have to take care of their kids, work and attend community college so I don’t consider myself exceptional in that department… but I have good time-management skills.

One thing that allowed me to spend time on volunteering and internships is that my girlfriend is very rich (her father is ceo of a family company worth more than 1.5 billion dollar) so I have been pretty fortunate.

Before meeting her, I was a 18 year old kid scrubbing toilet for money since my parents still live in Europe and didn’t really approve my choices… my parents are not rich anyway so I wouldn’t have accepted their contribution.

Also, ethnicity should not play a role for UC’s. I don’t think I even checked the latino box on the UC app, nor did I officially stated my race. I did mention it in the Haas essay though.

Oh I did not mean to imply that you were an exceptional applicant. In fact, you are quite a conventional Haas applicant. I was just wondering what else you did besides volunteering and internships (no school organizations, competitive sports, musical talents, entrepreneurial ventures, etc.) But you seem solid nonetheless.

I’m pretty sure race matters. Haas is 60% Asian. I’m Asian. How many Asians applying to Haas have 4.0s? UCs try not to use affirmative action but it’s probably there, in the back of an admission officer’s mind.

You seem very focus on your goals Investment, I think that’s more important than any race or ethnicity…

Actually, I have some Kazakh origins, so, I too might be “an Asian with a 4.0”… I know… kazakh is not Korean or Japanese so I probably don’t fall into the same category

When I talked to an Haas alumni, who is now an ibanker for GS at NYC, she told me that not being involved in any student clubs/government etc might hurt me. But the thing is, without disrespecting or generalizing too much, if you’ve been in places like Irak and saw people suffering and dying, you can’t just sit with some immature kids who argue for an hour whether they should dress in a toga or as nerds for an event called “club row” at SMC… and those people are called “leaders” since they are president a club…

You mean Iraq, right? I have talked to a few people who’ve come back from there and they all lost some neurons, thank you Mr. Bush

In the French-speaking world, we use Irak, and technically, there is no write or wrong way to spell that word in latin languages, but in the US, people use Iraq even though I think that English people use Irak as well. Anyway, you’re right if you want to. English is my third language and after sleeping only 4 hours, I tend to lose neurons indeed.

@labanane

i think a more important question is

how old are you?

Hey

There hasn’t been much activity on this thread for a while…

Anyways I am looking to transfer to HAAS hopefully(1 year Transfer)i A next year and I really haven’t take any drastic steps towards my goal of Haas, but as transferring next year is about to get harder… is there something i can do to make my transfer application exceptional… perhaps something you may have done or know of that previous years have done.

please dont ■■■■■ me, i’m looking for some honest feedback

I am based in bay area so if you know any specifics… please do help me

What would make me a well rounded student that haas would want?

Any positive feedback would be really help. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks!! :)
