I plan to apply for Haas this November and just wanted your opinions' regarding classes.

Based on my schedule I am able to fulfill all 9 breadth requirements. However I only need one more honors course to complete the honors program at my CCC. Do you think it is better to finish all 9 breadth or finish the last honors class (which is a class that does not fulfill any Berkeley requirements, just a class to finish the program)?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think Berkeley even takes it into consideration if you finish the Honors Program or not.

I would finish the the course for the honors program for UCLA if you apply there. You only really need 7 of the 9 Breadth courses to apply for admission and the other 2 just need to be completed before you graduate.

hmm if u really have stellar grades i think u should just aim high for berkeley.
UCLA tap does give preference to those who complete the 6 honors classes.

but if u do get in haas, and u do 7/9, u still have to complete the rest of them there.
and then they want u out in 2 years.
that means u won't be able to take a lot of classes u wish to take unless u cram urself overthere.

so it depends how much more u wanna go to haas than UCLA

everythings a gamble, i just placed my wager where haas was

100% of my focus is into Haas. I will not even be applying into UCLA. I was more or less wondering if Haas would prefer you complete the honors program or complete all 9 breadth before being admitted.

if u do 7/9.
u can't do it in summer, more like u shouldn't
u have to take 2 classes mandatory sumemr school after u have been admitted to haas. MANDATORY ! thats y i feel so sad now... my summer ! NUUUUUU
so basically unless u wanna take 4 classes in ur summer i suggest u finish as much as u can at a CC
i won't take anything in addition to the mandatory summer classes cuz first of all.
1) i don't know how hard classes there are
2) transfer students there mostly are 4.0s. so if if grading is based on a curve basically its a blood bath.
3) i wanna get to know the place instead of just pure grindage.

see my point?

lol i wonder how many honors classes did i take... 2?
ofcourse they prefer breadth rather than honors

remember their bottom line requirement is u GTHO in 2 years. thats all there is to it

Wait, why do you say 4 classes when it's 2 classes? And the 2 remaining classes in Breadth MUST be taken the summer BEFORE you transfer? And were you in the honors program (TAP)?

Completing the honors program is unnecessary. Finish all the breadth requirements. If Berkeley cares about honors at all, you've taken a bunch whether you've completed the program or not.

ok let me make my point clear
if u get accepted in haas. u have to go immediately after ur spring semester and attend their mandatory summer school.
they give u 2 classes to take mandatory

i am saying 4 classes cuz u said "if you do 7/9 can't you just finish the other 2 courses during summer school at a CC after you've been admitted?"
u COULD take the other 2 there and 2 + 2 wouldn't that make 4

and nope i couldn't care about tap
its a taboo in our honors center to say u got into wherever u got into and say u didn't do tap... ahaha but reality is i doubt UCB cares...

while i was there they said they just wanna see leadership role. other qualities are apparently insignificant. atleast thats what they told me >_>

I have a quick question about the Breadth for Haas: It says on assist.org under Arts and Humanities
Arts and Humanities: Two courses from areas such as Art, Drama, Ethics, Film,
Foreign Language (any level), Literature, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies,
Rhetoric, and Theater, including history, theory and studio/practice courses in
these areas.
Does this mean if I took Japanese 1 and 2 it would fulfill the Breadth for Arts/Humanities?

i took J1 and J2 as well
i used it to fulfill one international studies course
they can not overlap as 2 courses
and they can used for either arts or international studies

anyone can correct me if they think i m wrong

i had a ton of art humanities.
no i don't think so.
i did go up to haas once and they told me u can only use them once
as in make use the foreign language courses and apply them to one breadth requirement

The 7/9 have to be completed before you transfer? I thought that was for before you graduate after you transfer (bachelors). Oh and what're the two mandatory classes that need to be taken in the summer?

hey so haas really doesnt care about honors classes? (i dont even know how it would help because most honors are for science majors) and i did not understand what you meant about the foreign language if i took spanish 101 and 102 (ill keep going until 104 if i can fit it) i can use that to fill something else as well? please explain more i did not understand.

and if honor classes are good for haas i wont take econ during summer so i can take it as an honors class later

the only reason why i know econ 102 is honors is because i looked at the breadth form and under social and behavioral sciences it shows econ 101, 102+, and 102H+...

yes, you must have completed 7/9 by the end of the spring semester (the one before you begin at ucb). the summer classes are busn communications, busn ethics, and a discussion group.

my advise to whoever started this thread is stick to the berkeley requirements....you have two semesters left (fall and spring) to fit in extra classes...you just have to mention your planned completion of those classes....but you do have to complete them, or your admission offer can be revoked. also, do stuff that will make you stand out (extra-curriculars)....look for something related to busn/leadership. take advantage of this summer!!!

So it's best to do internships during the summer and clubs during the school year but what about other ECs? I know if I want to get a 4.0 I'm gonna be swamped with work the whole year so I'm a little worried about how I'd fit even clubs into my time with all the studying I'll be doing.

I've never enrolled full-time at a CC yet but is 5 classes for fall/spring semester and 2 classes during the summer kinda overload? I know the average is roughly 4 classes a semester but I hear if you go over the semester unit max you can petition it if you show that you have a good GPA.
