Has anyone heard of these books or has had experiences with them that they are willing to share? My dad heard from a friend of a friend that these two books are really good for high scorers. I know there are a lot of random books for the SAT out there but I wanted to know if buying these would be a waste of money. These links show the two books on amazon:

Amazon.com: Hack the SAT: Strategies and Sneaky Shortcuts That Can Raise Your Score Hundreds of Points (9781592403691): Eliot Schrefer: Books

Amazon.com: Up Your Score (2011-2012 edition): The Underground Guide to the SAT (9780761158738): Larry Berger, Michael Colton, Manek Mistry, Paul Rossi, Workman Publishing: Books

Thank you so much for your reviews and comments.

Up your score is pretty good. It not only gives some good tips on the SAT, but also is very funny. The vocabulary in it is especially easy to remember because of the funny sentences, such as “Al was abashed at a bash when he drank too much and fell in the trash.”

Up Your Score is a waste of money. What does it contain? Mainly tips, along with a recipe for cookies and a lot of jokes. Only the vocab section is useful, as SilverAurora mentioned. I see that you remembered the sentence I shared, SilverAurora :)!

The other sections are severely anemic - don’t expect much in the way of math help, for example.

If you can find it at a bookstore, it’s worth a glance. I borrowed mine from the library.

I need mostly critical reading help… what books should I get?

I borrowed up your score from a friend it’s funny to read and all but it’s pretty useless except the vocabulary which are funny sentences that you can remember.

I enjoyed Up Your Score—it’s funny and has some good tips. But it doesn’t have as much depth as some of the others I’ve seen. I would recommend it as a primary source for a student who was being forced to study for the SAT. But I would recommend it as a secondary, optional resource for someone who is serious about investing time in this test.
