Hacking?

I know this may not be the best place to discuss it (for secrecy's sake), but how exactly does on get involved in hacking at MIT? And what dorms/floors/halls have a hacking culture?

Ask once you get here. I’m sure people will be happy to point you in the right direction once they’re not discussing their potentially-illegal activities in a public forum / implicating their friends.

Traditionally, most hackers are from the east side dorms. This in no way means that you have to live in an east side dorm to hack, or that there aren’t hackers in any west campus dorms. And hopefully no one will feel the need to stereotype more than this.

I second what k4r3n2 says. Trust me, you’ll be able to find information about it once you’re here.

As far as I’ve seen, the majority of hackers live in EC or Random, with smaller but also significant subsets from BC and Senior Haus. There seem to be fewer hackers from the other dorms, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t hackers there; it’s just less prevalent.

hacking does not take place at MIT. its students are never involved in such horrid activities. They are good students who never play pranks. They are busy with their good student studies.

who told you that MIT students participate in such things? what are their names? this will not go unpunished…

now stop asking about it. now. or else.

lol.

…don’t be stupid.

Hacking is a fantastic part of the MIT experience, and part of the fun is the secrecy.

Also, you know, discretion.

Incidentally, a good way to make it harder for yourself to get involved is to come in with people already knowing that you are “that prefrosh who was blabbing about illegal stuff in public forums.”

(gonzaemi, this isn’t aimed at you. It’s aimed at any of your fellow '13s who might be tempted to start carrying on this conversation in detail, or to carry on similar conversations on Facebook or whatever.)

Thanks for clearing that up, haha. I guess I might wanna stay away from this topic online…

don’t ask, don’t tell will fare thee well.
