So I went into Wake Forest as an aspiring Bio major, and premed student, and took Chem 111, Bio 113, History 109 and a Writing seminar. The semester was very trying mentally, emotionally, as well as academically. In high school I wasn’t the best student either, I went to a top public school and graduated with a 3.0, so I don’t even know how I got into Wake. So my GPA for the first semester is a 1.58 I think, I received a D- in Bio, a C in Chemistry, a C- in the Chem lab, a C+ in History, and a D in Writing. Is there any hope for me to continue onto any graduate school? I am definitely switching my thoughts of a major after this semester as well. Will I even be able to remain a student at Wake with this GPA? What are my options right now?
You can find your exact GPA in DegreeWorks in WIN. As for continuation, email your adviser. According to page 36 of the undergraduate bulletin, you’re required to maintain a GPA of 1.6 if you have fewer than 30 credits, so you might be in trouble. http://static.wfu.edu/files/pdf/academics/ugb2015-2016.pdf
nathks15, you need to contact the Office of Academic Advising immediately to discuss your situation. They should be able to help you assess what’s going on. Wake wants its students to succeed, and, clearly, something is not working for you. Rest assured that you are not alone–the transition from high school to college is difficult. I’m not sure if you sought help during the first term, but you need to do so immediately if you are getting D’s in your classes. And, yes, there is hope!
