Hi!
Did anyone apply for this scholarship this year or in previous years? If so, what is the standard number of recipients that they choose?

Lol, good job posting the day after it's due :P
This was just about the most circuitous scholarship ever. Two levels of request forms with SASEs then more documentation than a college app lol.
I haven't heard much information about it, but according to their app, many will apply, few will receive :D

lol, Yeah. I mailed mine's off yesterday. But I was searching for information on the web today about how much scholarship money the recipients recieved and how many recipients there were. I didn't find it. But I did come across this old post in CC - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=36872

I sent mine way b4 the deadlien date and I don't noe about how much they're giving. When will they notify semi and finalists? Also, the SASE the first one was request for the application right? and the second is included in the scholarship application??? I got realyl scared when someone said 2 SASE requests.

Yes, I believe you're right about the SASE's. :)

Oh really? My first SASE was a request for a "REQUEST FORM". Then I filled that out and got a teacher rec and another SASE then they mailed me the actual application.

I thought the REQUEST FOR REQUEST FORM was a bit much.

From the website...
[quote]
Send a brief request letter with an enclosed Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to Youth Foundation, 36 West 44th Street, New York, New York 10036 to obtain a Request for Application Form.

After receiving the Form, fill it out and staple to a letter of recommendation on official letterhead written by a teacher, advisor, principal, or coach. Enclose a SASE, and mail the three items to Youth Foundation by January 15, 2006 to ensure receipt of the application materials.
NOTE: The application will not be mailed without a SASE enclosure.

So... yeah, that's why I thought differently. URRGH if I did that extra step and I didn't need to!

Also, about the amount of money...

What is the Amount of the Individual Scholarship?

Grants have ranged from $2,500 to $4,000 per year and are renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate scholarship funding at our discretion. Individual scholarship size may fluctuate over time depending upon the size of our endowment

Don't know about the number of recipients.

Thanks so much Machiavelli, that's exactly what I needed to know!

I know this thread is a bit old, but since the scholarship still exists, is anyone else applying? I just got the application, but am a bit confused . . . it asks for your SSN on the first page, but tells you to black out your SSN on pretty much all other materials . . . I'd rather not give it at all, but I'm wondering why they did that? Also, if anyone has info on how many applicants/recipients there are, please share.

So does anyone actually know of someone who's won this scholarship?

bumping this question . . . I'm definitely not putting/blacking out social security numbers just in case, but does anyone know of anyone who has recieved this?

I am applying, but I don't know anyone that received this. Is it even worth applying if your college is going to grant lots of money anyways based on financial need?

has anyone heard back from this scholarship?

yes, I heard about a week ago that I am a finalist, and they requested more information to assess need. There were about 25 emails on the list, so I'm guessing those were the finalists? I'll update if I hear anything more.

Hey guys...

Just wanted to let you know that this scholarship is totally legit.

I was one of the winners this year....they narrowed it from 800 applications to 32.

The award is 4,000 and is renewable for 3 more years. (but can be reduced down to $2,500 based on funds)

It was a totally long process but so worth it.

Good luck this year!

Kay I have a question about it. It says in a breif description talk about my goals and hopes and whatnot. So what word limit do you guys suggest. With all the questions they ask I could say a lot, but thy want a breif description. Help please. :)

Has anyone heard anything back from the Youth Foundation? Or know when they announce winners?

If you’re a semi-finalist you should hear something around mid-may.

ok thanks!

S got an email earlier this week asking for verified financial information sent directly from the college and report of other outside scholarships. Email went to 15 or 16 people.

Congratulations everyone who won it!

I’ve been working on this scholarship since September and guys, it’s very worth it.
Don’t try to chicken out thinking it’s too much work for one scholarship. That’s exactly how they weed out the people who want it and the people who don’t. Which to me makes so much more sense than asking us to write an essay about why we want it like other scholarships.

Also, FOLLOW THE EXACT INSTRUCTIONS. If they want it ordered in some way do it. Even if it sounds ridiculous.

Good luck to everyone going to apply for it this year, and congrats again to the winners!
