^You relax your hair. What do you expect?

Yeah, if your hair’s that kind, then perhaps things may not work out too well for you. However, it is doable. It’d probably be easier to maintain than my hair.

true dat!!! but my hair isn’t as coarse naturally it’s like in between 3B-3C hair and since i got fresh relaxer put in my hair 3 weeks ago (after a year!!! :() my hair has been very happy. It’s almost like 3B hair now  It’s totally my mom’s fault though (through her dad’s side of the family!) if it wasn’t for her i’d have a more straight-wavy texture to my hair…my brother’s lucky to have inherited that trait at least.

One of my neighbors …last year used to sport a big ass afro …it was like, HUGE and he always kept a comb in it…■■■■■. But too many ppl gave him **** about it.

^I have shrinkage like you wouldn’t believe, but overall, my hair is eminently manageable. In the end, it all comes down to proper maintenance.

I believe we have taken this thread far enough off track. :)

^^Oh, my gosh. You can go a year without relaxer? I have no idea what would happen if I did that, but I assume it would be horrible. I look a hot mess just 8 weeks out.

My sister has locks. It’s so easy for her. She hasn’t had a bad hair day in 4 years. Oh, the jealousy.

^^ haha, yes!!! this conversation belongs back in the African-Am forum :(

wait, did you go all natural? jw…

^Yes, my hair is entirely natural. I cut that relaxed mess off.

^^^ OMG. YES. i swear i went a year without relaxer…well…more like 8 months :stuck_out_tongue: but it felt like forever. But my hair was manageable for the first few months…theb it got crazy for the next 4 months. But i never had time to go in and get in done. So i just settled with flat ironing my hair. i tried my best to maintain it.

Then at the end of May it started looking AWFUL even this one guy made a joke about it :(

however keep in mind that my hair’s texture isn’t like a type 4. It’s just huge mess of frizz, curls & thickness.–but in theory i don’t really need the relaxer.

@ksaramand: If it looks cute then i say kept it!!! I think it makes you look unique. If it’s causing trouble i say get it relaxed again.

btw if you’re wondering about the hair type thing I was referring to this chart: [Hair Types on NaturallyCurly.com](Hair Types | NaturallyCurly.com)

My hair is definitely a 3C [naturally]. With the relaxer in, it’s more of a 3B.

^I am aware of the hair type you referenced, as I visit the website you provided quite frequently. :)

I have cousins (step-cousins, technically) with 3C hair. It’s so cute. I’m so envious.

But actually, I have no idea what my natural hair looks like. It was natural for a while, but it was in braids 24/7 for that whole time. Besides that, it’s been permed or at least pressed since before I can remember, I think.

growing out your hair is fun, but it really becomes high maintenance as it reaches a certain length. If you don’t like spending 30-hour doing your hair, short and clean is the way to go. Plus if you live in a windy place, long hair makes it really gay.

Wind messes your hair up soo badly if it’s long.

That website was really interesting… I’m like a combination 3a/3b, i guess. God, I straightened my hair every day [and it takes upwards of an hour even in dry weather] and it made me miserable, but I thought it was the only way to look good. I finally came to terms with it though, and now I just wash and wear  Except for humid days. Then I have to braid.

Edit: Long hair is fun. I’ve been growing mine out. It used to be almost to my hips, but then I got it cut in middle school. It’s down to about mid-back now [a little longer when I straighten it occasionally]. I’m due for a trim, but I don’t want to cut it…

^^ Swine, that’s not always the case. I have hair down to my waist and I spend about 5 minutes a day on it- tops. It just depends entirely on hair type.

And wind makes your hair happy? I do believe that’s not what you meant to say…

Perhaps it’s a transferred epithet?

I had never heard of relaxer before

^I hadn’t either (well, at least in relevance to the hair cream or lotion).

I’m typically content with them.
