Anyone have em or bringing em? I hear they're a fire hazard but fluorescents flicker and hurt your eyes so I dunno what to bring.

I get that they flicker, but how do they hurt your eyes? I don't like halogen lights because they always generate heat around my workspace when I don't want it.

Halogen lights aren't allowed.

Well at least the housing web site says "no halogen lamps".

Do they actually go inspect everyone's room after movein for stuff like this or is it ok to just bring a halogen lamp anyway? I ask because it's difficult these days to find a fluorescent lamp that isn't bulky and space consuming.

no they don't. if you suddenly have a fire because of that, then they will get on your ass for that and haul you in for questioning/res dean to get punished.

btw, i used a halogen lamp all year, 5-6 hours a day between 7p-1a, no problems. they're hot sometimes, yes, but in the winter it's kind of nice. otherwise, bring a fan for late spring/early fall to cool off the area. flourescents aren't quite as bright for me and i have terrible eyesight so i'd rather not screw up my eyes more.

Shoot, I'm on first floor though, they'll probably catch me huh?

Dude, don't even worry about it. Even if they do catch you they'll probably just tell you to get rid of it. No big deal.

They probably won't catch you. Just be careful not to start a fire.

they DO do inspections. like third week though (at least in sixth my year, maybe it takes them that long to get over there)

also, all bets are off this year because of the increased public awareness of dorm fires: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07279.html
