in one of the housing letters from UF it said no halogen lamps...of course this was after I had already gotten a lamp (halogen) to use at school. Now my question is...what do they have against halogen lamps? and also, are they really strict on this policy or could i just go ahead and risk taking it?

Halogen bulbs have been know to start fires. These bulbs get very hot. At preview the said that they do a fire inspection at the begining of each semster.

Just take it back, while there are other selections.

Halogen lamps are more prone to fires and burns than regular lamps. They operate at a higher temperature and I guess the residence halls have had problems with accidents (fires, burns) that occurred because of halogen lamps, so they decided to ban them from the dorms.

They are strict with this policy, the RA will come in during the semester and perform fire code checks on each of the rooms and if he/she finds a halogen lamp (even if you hide it), you're going to get in trouble. Now of course, they tell you when they will come, so you could bring it and then just hide it somewhere, but if some unfortunate accident occurs because of your lamp, you will be held responsible. I would return it back and buy one of the approved lamps.

ah ok. thanks! i had no idea.
