Hamilton or TCNJ - cost is a factor

I've gotten all my acceptances and I've narrowed it down to Hamilton or TCNJ. Basically I'm not getting any financial aid from Hamilton and as of now my parents only have enough money to send me there for one year. In your opinion should I just go to TCNJ for less, or go to Hamilton for freshman year and then transfer out if my parents cannot afford it anymore?

Hamilton’s a great place, but I think that having to leave after freshman year could be really really painful. I don’t know that I’d risk having to leave.

What is tcnj? Odd that Hamilton didn’t give u fin aid if u r deserving :(

If your grades are off the charts after your first year, Hamilton could start giving you scholarship money. In my experience, students who demonstrate need and have amazing grades are rewarded. Financial Aid at Hamilton might be able to give you some advice, try getting in touch.

I would avoid the pain (emotional and financial) of transferring after one year. Very little will impress you after Hamilton, and your parents’ bank account will be drained. If Hamilton accepted you this time around, I would spend a year or two at TCNJ and then hope to transfer in. Your financial situation could improve, but more importantly, with the right grades and resume, you might get scholarship money. Good luck! Tough decision.
