Handicap Parking

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is handicap parking on or near the academy? We are taking my son to 2nd session NASS and I will have my handicap sign with me and was hoping to get close to Academy since I have difficulty walking. Thanks for any help.

I found this on the USNA Security Website:

Q: I am handicapped and have a handicapped placard. Is there any way I can drive onto the Yard?

A: Yes, you can enter through Gate 1. After a vehicle inspection you will be authorized access.

(<a href="http://www.usna.edu/SecuInfoPers/FAQS.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.usna.edu/SecuInfoPers/FAQS.htm</a>)</p>

Along those lines- does anyone know of a place to rent a wheelchair around the academy area? (for one of the grandmothers- who, after being a Navy Wife for 30years, refuses to sit this one out)- but all the walking (especially in hot, humid weather) might be a bit much-
any advice would be appreciated!

Well, this is REALLY reaching back into the memory banks...

IIRC, there are handicapped parking spaces in the Midstore parking lot and by the Visitor's Center. Hopefully Wheelah or one of the current Mids will be able to confirm/debunk/clarify.

As for the wheelchair, I suggest you bring one. I just don't think they have facilities to lend those out. WAY too much going on. I may be wrong (I hope I am), but I think you may be stuck here.

No joke on the heat and humidity, though. BRUTAL. I strongly recommend a CamelBak filled with ice water. Has saved my tail at Disney and Sea World more times than I care to count.

ETA: RTFP, Zaphod! RTFP!

Sorry. Thought you meant AT USNA.

I do not recall anywhere in Annapolis where a wheelchair can be rented (nowhere obvious, at any rate), but there has to be SOMEWHERE. You may want to try a Google search for Annapolis Wheelchair Rental. I STRONGLY recommend reserving one ahead of time, and CONFIRMING that reservation.

Call the good folks at the Annapolis Conference and Visitor's Bureau, they have been very helpful. Bet they know where you can get a wheelchair.

Z and SS- thanks so much! Appreciate the info!

It's a government facility . . . there are many handicapped parking spaces throughout. Although some could have used re-painting as of last fall.
There are handicapped parking spaces alongside the street in the town also.

Thanks for all the parking help!
