Hard numbers. Are these in range (for an Asian?)

These are just hard numbers, but i want to see if these are in the range for an Asian Male. Yeah, I'm not too bad at English, either.

SATI: 2260 (740W,720R,800M)

SATII: 780IIC, 800 Physics (Only reporting those two for SEAS but 710 Lit 680 Bio<-ouch)

APs: Calc BC- 5 (AB subscore- 5)
English Language- 5
Statistics- 5
Psychology- 4 (Self study)
World History- 3 (Self study)

You tell me if you’re “in range.”

As for your SATII’s, you probably can’t be in better shape. Your AP’s are fine.

Are you trying to see your chances? Your numbers may be “in range” but they by no means are a sole indicator of whether you’ll be admitted. I mean, plus, didn’t you already have a hunch that you were in pretty good shape based in your 2200+ SAT, 780, 800, and three 5’s? Columbia doesn’t admit exclusively 2400’s, and I can tell you as an Asian male going to SEAS next year, my numbers weren’t nearly as good. My EC’s really boosted me.

Wow, you remind me of myself…in fact, our scores are very similar

What columbia saw when i applied…

SAT: 2260 (750W, 710R, 800M)
SATII: 790 Math II, 730 Physics, 740 Math I, 670 Bio <– whoops :P

US History - 5
English Language - 5
World History - 4

So yea, I am an asian male and I got in with those scores. But you must realize that those scores alone did not get me in. I think my extracurricular activities and somewhat unique volunteer experience helped me through the application process.

But overall, your scores are fine and you are good to go. It all comes down to your e.c’s and essays. Good Luck

^ Only 3 AP’s ?

yea, when i applied, i only had 3 ap’s on my belt. But i took 5 more this year, so i have a total of 8 AP’s. Ap’s don’t really matter when you apply. The scores only determine if you can get credit and/or place higher in certain courses as a freshman.

I think AP’s do indeed matter. It matters that you chose Honors over the regular course, and it matters that you chose AP over Honors.

If the admissions officers see that you took Honors English instead of AP English, they’ll begin to wonder why. Bottom line is that you should take the most rigorous courses your school offers your junior and senior years. If this comprises of three AP’s your junior year, so be it. But I think that saying AP’s don’t matter when you apply isn’t entirely accurate.
