hard question by Italian student:Maturita' exam equivalent and importance in US

Alright now….this is kind of a hard question….let’s start from the basics; I’ll keep it as simple as possible.
1) 17 year-old Italian born in Italy
2) Lived in America for 2 years ( ages 4-5) and England for 5 years ( ages 9-14)
3) Attended high school in Italy, Naples in an International School called the “ International School of Naples”, which allowed me to receive a Diploma which is basically the equivalent of an American Diploma.
Now: this American diploma would theoretically allow me to attend Uni in the States. However, to expand my horizons, I have recently received a Diploma which basically translated my American grade, into an Italian grade…100 on the Maturita’ exam.

My question is simple: does anyone know how such a thing would be evaluated? Does anyone have any information regarding this sort of thing?

PS. Please bear in mind that the aforementioned information is strictly concise and brief…if you have any questions..don’t hesitate to ask.
Thank you in advance

United States colleges have specialists in foreign student admission who know exactly how to evaluate that credential. If it’s a good credential in Italy, that will be known in United States admission offices.

cheers…any sites that i should visit?

Anyone else? thanks

Read all of this, and I do mean all of it.

Then, make an appointment with their counselors at the office that is closest to you. They are the true experts on getting Italian students into good colleges and universities in the USA.

You also need to meet with the college/university placement advisor at the International School of Naples who has responsibility for getting students into US colleges and universities. That person should be able to tell you where graduates of your school have gone to study in the USA.

Good luck!

Well first the site happymom posted is actually quite extensive and very useful. So yes do read it in its entirety.
However, there is no equivalent to the Maturita in Americans. American high schoolers do not pass an exam at the end of their senior year. They just receive a graduation diploma. Most Europeans must pass an exam such as the Maturita (or the Baccaulaureat in my case) in order to graduate from high school and receive their high school diploma - (in other words, we do not have the luxury to affected by senioritis during our senior year.)
Of course, most universities know at these exams and your challenging curriculum will be taken into consideration. Also, some schools even award you college credit if you receive a certain score on your Maturita.

Si tu hai ancora delle domande, chiedi mi. Sono nella tua stesa situazione. Buona fortuna.
– I can’t believe I’m helping out an Interista…Lol.
