i’ve only taken 5 i can’t judge very well.
Although i got a 5 in chem, i was expecting a 3. The test is hard as balls! But it looks like it’s curved pretty generously. But as far as the other exams that i haven’t taken/will not take: my sister took french language and got a 5 seven years ago, but was the first student from our hs in like five years to do that, and no one has done it since -.-

I personally think any history AP exam is easy with sufficient amount of studying.
Hardest, I believe, is either AP Lang (our teacher didn’t prepare us for any of the MC AT ALL) or Physics B (though I still got a 4; I was expecting a 1)

Actually, I should say Music Theory was the hardest, especially sight singing

For me, relative to how difficult i found the exam, in easy->hard order (grade received)

Calc BC - Putting this before AB just because I was actually astounded at how easy I found the exam. I did terribly in the class and didn’t want to study so I accepted that I would do miserably, and walking out I was sure I missed at most 2 multiple choice questions and nailed probably 52 of the 54 free response points, being unsure about the “baby bird” problem. (5)

Calc AB - Excellent teacher, didn’t even consider studying besides the mock exams he used as actual tests in class. Probably a near-perfect score. (5)

Computer Science A - A shallow look at a giant subject, exam doesn’t go too in depth, not that difficult if you put in enough time. (5)

World History - took in 2011 before change - found the MC very straightforward if you knew your stuff, DBQ is formulaic, and other 2 FR are very broad. Apparently I didn’t know my stuff as well as I thought, however. (3)

US History - Was unsure of my last two essays, but knew I nailed the DBQ and the multiple choice, thanks to The Essential Content by Larry Krieger. (5)

Human Geography - This was freshman year, the class stunk and I have always been the type that doesn’t study for things, so I thought it was a big deal when I read half of the Barrons book the night before in preparation. Felt terrible walking out of the test because the multiple choice were the most random things ever, but I did extremely well on the free response because I actually understood the concepts. I felt terrible because I figured I got somewhere around 30% of the MC and near-all of the free response, which I figured was around the 65-70 range, which I thought was really bad and would get me like a 1. I later learned that was actually a good percentage. (5)

Chemistry - I did OK in the class but it was my teacher’s first time teaching AP. All of our quizzes & tests were past AP free response problems, which must have helped. I remember walking out of the exam thinking I was on the border of 4 and 5 because I found the free response section really difficult while I found the multiple choice very easy. (5)

Physics B - (had an experimental test or something, not the one on AP central) Had a great grasp of mechanics and a pretty bad one of electricity and magnetism before the exam. Naturally, with my luck, at least 40 of the 70 MC questions were electricity and magnetism, and 60% of the FR was electricity & magnetism. I also royally screwed up the easiest question on the free response (which was a mechanics question). (4)

Here’s my take, I’m a math and science person. Here is easiest to hardest

AP Calc BC: Had a phenomenal teacher; calculus came easily to me (5)

AP Psychology: Very interesting and straightforward. I thought I bombed this year’s 2nd FRQ but MC was very easy (5)

AP Statistics: Great teacher, the exam was just like any practice questions we had done. (5)

AP Computer Science: Took the class online. I think I finished the MC with about 10 seconds left but FRQ I had almost an hour left. This was my favorite course I have ever taken. (5)

AP English Language: I am mediocre at MC but I nailed the essays. (5)

AP World History: Awesome teacher again, definitely a lot of content and requires essay writing skills, but I was prepared for the exam (5)

AP Physics B: Not so good teacher; had to figure out a good amount of content by myself (thermodynamics especially). Very Difficult exam, I’m just glad I’m a math person (5)

Of the one’s I’ve taken, from easiest to hardest, I’d have to go:

AP Calculus BC (5): As a math exam, there isn’t really that much conjecture, there has to be a right answer. In this way, the exam is pretty straight forward, you just gotta know your math and how to tackle each problem in the least time consuming way. I finished it in record time, taking the leftover minutes to check my answers. If you’re a math person, you’re good to go. Of course, having a great teacher helps a lot (props to St. Ledger)

AP Language/Composition (5): The exam was easy enough, the only thing anyone has to worry about really is the MC. You can pretty much bs your way through the essays, as long as you have a firm grasp of the schemes and tropes and appeals, and have a decent enough vocabulary. The MC is mostly conjecture; my exam got progressively harder. Overall, an easy enough test. A lot also depends on the teacher; from what I hear, many kids bomb the exam because their teacher didn’t prepare them at all. Mine gave us the most insane curriculum ever, even making us do a crazy final project during the AP exams, only to take a relatively easy exam.

AP US History (5): Definitely the easiest history exam, at least from the ones I’ve taken. Most of the stuff you’d have learned in years past. I had THE worst teacher, who made us make sock puppets and skits, and I still managed to pull out a 5. Of course, this class involves some nights of studying. I crammed the night before, but I’ve reviewed gradually over a week, but the problem was that I had to take the AP Euro exam right afterwards, that was definitely difficult, having to know that much information. But still, compared to the rest, this test was a breeze, the MC was typical if you’ve had previous APUSH exams, they tend to recycle. The free responses can be bsed, and they pretty much just hand you the DBQ

AP Art History (5): I took this class online, and it was probably the hardest class ever, but the exam was equally as hard. This exam ties with Euro in difficulty, but they’re two different beasts. A lot of memorization is involved here, relying heavily on your identification skills. As a history class, you still need to know information about the time period, and having a nonexistent teacher toughens it up a lot, but as long as you can look at a picture and describe it in its entirety, then you’re fine. Wait, no one can do that, nevermind, you’re not fine, you need to study.

AP European History (5): A really hard exam, even with a really awesome teacher. I had to do so much studying for this, attending study sessions and preparing maybe a month in advance for the test. As I said, I was taking the US exam right before, so I was really scared going into the exam and I was only expecting a 3 since I was brain dead right after US, but I guess all the studying paid off. I cannot stress enough how much you need to study for this class, or any history class in general.

Mind you I am not a history person so I had to do a lot of studying, nor is English my native language, so receiving those 5s was like getting high fived by college board.

IMO:
Hard: english, since it is the only one you can’t “prepare” for. but if you’re decent at writing it isn’t that bad.
Easy: BC calculus(so predictable), physics C mechanics

Easiest is hands down Stats.

Easiest: Calculus AB
Hardest: Spanish Language and Composition. Especially if you skip 1-2 years of Spanish, are not a native speaker, and need the college credit. So many vocabulary words that your head is going to explode. The tapes speak too fast and you can’t understand a ton of it. A bad teacher and no Rosetta Stone makes it worse. Seriously, I’m overwhelmed just by being in the AP class.

@tangentline It’s mandatory for you to take a foreign language AP? I hate foreign languages altogether so that sounds like hell :O

What would you guys recommend as a self-study? The only ap I’m taking this year is ap chem so I want to improve my application.

@jeffisaboss AP bio isn’t too bad to self-study. As long as you’re good at memorization. It’s all memorization for bio

I’ve heard really mixed things for bio anything easier like maybe psych or English? How is micro and macro economics. I’m only taking one ap next year so I want to self-study at least two ap’s. That being said thanks for the help.

IMO:
Hardest: the Calcs. Unless you’re trained for the test, it’s pretty brutal. I knew the math decently well, but not the test format, so i failed miserably.
Easiest: English. If you know your stuff about grammar, writing style/structure, and analytical methods, you’ll end up doing fine.

This thread is completely subjective, so people are going to have completely differing opinions on stuff. For example, Calc AB was such a joke that I slept and played calculator games during the extra time I had (completely opposite of above poster). On the other hand, I feel reaallllllyyy bad about Spanish Lang which I’ll be taking this year.

Languages are probably the most difficult if you’re not a native speaker; I don’t think many people would argue with that. English is a different story; it really depends on how well you can use logic in lit class and stuff.

IMO:
Hardest: Languages (idk about Chinese though given the super high native 5 rate. I thought I got like a 2 on the test and I ended up with a 5)
Easiest: Stats, Calc. Then again, this is completely subjective.

@Deathpwner: Yup, if I don’t take AP Spanish… That’s going to cost me several hundreds of dollars, a lot of time, and if I do pass it and the other AP tests this year I can boast that I only have to take 3 non-math science courses to get my degree. (Yay for AP lenient school and the SAT English parts are a joke when it measures college success)

At my school, chem is crazy hard, and bio a lot of ppl do well

Easiest: I’m guessing Psych, but I haven’t taken it yet.
Hardest: AP Art History, seriously. Well it was, at least; they’ve changed it starting 2013 testing.

How’s the Physics B test?

easiest: psychology hardest: chemistry

For the two that I have taken, Both AP Stats and AP Gov were fair. Getting a 90% second semester in Stats turned out to be a 4 for me on the exam. The exam was seemingly too easy, so I believe it has tricked me without me realizing. I knew it was too good to be true. For knowing little-to-no government knowledge (I struggle in social studies), I got a 3 on Gov. I am actually considering that an accomplishment because I suck at government. It be easy for someone who actually knows what she is doing.

I am taking This year:
AP Calc BC
AP English (undecided between lit or language)
AP Physics Mechanics
AP French
AP Microeconomics & Macroeconomcs.

Yikes.
