Does anyone know how Harris Hall is? Does it have air conditioning? Would I be able to play my guitar until quiet hours (maybe a stupid question, idk). I would appreciate any info anyone can give me about the dorm, thanks.

i lived in harris hall this past year and it doesnt have air conditioning, but most of the year, it's bearable without air conditioning. it has heat for the winter and it's only really hot for a few weeks in august, which wasn't too bad. also, if you really can't stand it, you can always run to smith hall (air conditioned) and sit in their rooms =D. as for the guitar, most people play outside in nice weather.if you want to play in the rooms, your neighbors will probably be able to hear you through the walls. if it doesn't bother them, then its all good. you can always talk to them about it and maybe figure out a time when they wouldn't mind if you played. i know my neighbors always blasted their music, but i enjoyed it because it was good music, so i didn't mind at all.

I agree with Tiff. Harris is the CHOICE hall. But please don't let that scare you away. Most of the people in there are soooo outgoing and fun. I lived in Harris this past year also and yeah theres no a.c. but like Tiff said you need it maybe 2 weeks out of the whole year? During orientation it was annoying but with some fan power it was bearable. Then Sept. gets so much cooler and then at the end of the year it gets hot for like 2 days. Harris is nice in that it has a homey feeling and the rooms are really nice.

Regarding the housing situation at Bucknell could you update me. I heard something about a new policy not allowing students to reside off campus within the next couple of years.

If this is true, how will Bucknell accomodate approximately 300 students who will need housing? I base that number on 10% of students residing off campus?

And, related to the housing issue, if these students need meal plans will that become an issue as well?

Thanks for the information!!!!
Are there plans to expand the campus on some new land that was recently acquired?

Bucknell has a policy that it guarantees housing for all students for all four years. There has been a notion of not having off campus housing anymore and bringing all off-campus students onto campus. But it has only been proposed and not passed. There are a lot of pros and cons to this topic and it is being under consideration. Pro-the off campus housing are in very bad shape and can be seen as unsuitable for living. Con-people from the public may live there that would not be appropriate for the school and some students claim that it is a good experienceworking with a landlord and having their own place. Also, Bucknell has a "Plan for Prominence" and has some very good ideas for the upcoming future. And a part of this plan is housing. Bucknell wants to build another building and get rid of the "mods" we have now. And redo the offcampus area and make it into a pretty, pictureque spot on campus with cobblestones and old fashion streetlights. As in meal plans, our dining services would be able to accomodate an increase in students. Our facilities are large and flexible. Also, our dining contract has ended this year and we are in the process of changing it around for the new semester (we just signed a contract with a new company). Meal plans/dining services will never be a problem at Bucknell. If you would like to know more about the plan of prominence you can find it in one of the issues of "the Bucknell World".

Do you have any recomendations in choosing a social sciences/humanities electives reqs for incoming freshman?

It depends on what you like and how you would like to spread your horizons. A lot of my peers have truely enjoyed "Logic", a philosophy course taught my Professor Fleming, Psychology 100 by Professor Evans, Economics 102? (the first one you can take), Young Adult Fiction (you get to read Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and other novels that are similar), and Management 101 (a lot of Bucknellians take this class. It's required for all Business majors but a lot of people from Engineerings to Art take this course. It's a lot of fun and you get some one on one experience). That is all I can think of right now but I will definitely post more as I think of them. But my recommendation is that if you see something interestings, sign up for it. Most of the courses are enjoyable and if not you'll learn something (like maybe you don't like that subject at all).
