Does anyone know when they announce the Harrison recipients? And if you don't receive one do you find out whether you are accepted to Honors and/or are just plan accepted?
Does everyone who applied receive some kind of notification one way or another?

My son applied for honors/Harrison, but we haven’t heard anything either. I think he may have gotten a notice when he sent it in online saying they received it, but nothing else. According to the website, notices will be mailed on the 22nd. I’m not sure if that is just acceptances or both acceptances and rejections from honors.

I received an email this morning with my notification that I am a Harrison Scholar and that a package will be sent to my house today. Good luck to you all!

Thanks Suzy! Interestingly, I have not received my MiamiU acceptance letter yet. I applied in the Early Action pool, which isn’t scheduled to be released for another month or so. I am eager to await the package coming because I think that they might have made a mistake…the Harrison decisions aren’t scheduled for release until late February.

I think all Harrison decisions are released in December, and you’ll learn the final value of the financial aid package in late February after you submit FAFSA.

I don’t think they made a mistake! My stepson heard today that he was accepted into the Honors Program - did not get the Harrison scholarship, which is not a surprise. (I honestly don’t know if he even applied in time for that.) I was happy that he got into the HP though. Not sure if that’s where he will end up but it’s definitely a great choice to have in the bag. (He hasn’t received his acceptance letter either!)

Son was accepted to the Honors Program…received an email today. Letters go out in the mail today, so i will be a few days until received. He is so pumped about being accepted!

Son was accepted to Honors today. No Harrison, but that was not a surprise. He loves Miami. He only applied to Ohio State and Miami. Ohio State will have to sweep him off his feet to win him over as at this point he is thinking “love and honor”!

wildwood, my SS is in the same boat. He also applied to OSU’s Honors and Scholars program. He won’t hear about that until January or February, correct?

Congratulations to the scholarship winners - and their parents!

suzy100, I haven’t kept up with all the dates this time…my 3rd child to do this in 4 years…things were a little different with each one. We’ll do an “accepted student overnight” at both schools in late winter if he hasn’t made a decision before then.

I have two in Honors at MU now. They both have been very happy and both turned down Honors at OSU. My kids so far just feel more at “home” at Miami. We’ll see if it ends up being true for S as well.

Congratulations to all and Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays! Enjoy the Season!

suzy100,
’ My stepson heard today that he was accepted into the Honors Program - did not get the Harrison scholarship"

-Do not be too upset. My D. who graduated from Miami last May, was in the same position. She ended up on full tution Meirt awards. About 9 - 10 of them were awarded automatically and covered her tution+. Also, make sure that if your kid maintains college GPA=3.8+, he can apply to returning student scholarships (deadline, I believe is March 15). Awards are very significant, do not miss deadline every year at college, since these are not renewable, they have to apply every year. In addition, upper classmen, primarily seniors though, have departmental Merit awards. MU is treating their best like royalty!!
D. will cherish her memories of Miami forever, she visited many times and enoyed every visit, still has friends there.
BTW, D. also turned down Honors at OSU and accetance into very selective program there. But it depends where kid feels at home. Usually those who love MU, do not like OSU and the other way around. These are very difference UG’s

^^We weren’t upset about his not getting the Harrison - his stats are good but not that good, so we weren’t surprised.

Curious about this statement. Were these departmental scholarships? He received one for meeting the published stats, but we aren’t expecting more. When did you receive notice of those? He is leaning toward OSU but might be swayed by more $ from Miami. I agree that they are two totally different UG’s. I am a Miami grad and did not even consider OSU because of its size, but I think that’s one of the things he is attracted to.

“Were these departmental scholarships”
-As I stated above, these are for upper classmen, a bit for juniors, but primarily for seniors. Too early to think about them. If he maintains great college GPA, he will know one way or another. D. would have not gotten near as much at OSU as she had at Miami, and the program that she was accepted at Miami was more selective than the one she was accepted at OSU. She has applied to both primarily becuase of these programs. $$$ were a bonus.

MiamiDAP- I am not sure those scholarships are still handed out that way. D1 is in Honors at Miami (turned down Honors at OSU) and started in 2008 with a totally different merit program than D2 who is also in Honors at MU (turned down Honors at OSU). The new system is published on the website and seems to be generous to a greater number of students, but not as many top students get massive $$$s. Even the Harrison is now full tuition for a greater number of students, while it used to be less students awarded, but with full tuition and R&B. I am not sure who you could call to ask about that.

S was accepted into Honors at MU for 2012. Didn’t get the Harrison, but no surprise there. He only applied to MU and OSU. We always assumed he would go to OSU because of its size and athletic focus. He went on a formal tour of Miami last fall and liked it even more than he had before. I am insisting he make a formal visit to OSU, but he stated that they will have to do a bang up sell job to get him to choose OSU over Miami. (He was invited to apply to Honors and Scholars. We haven’t heard yet.) The cost with the scholarships, as listed on the websites, make them almost the same.

D1 is a senior. Many of her friends already have jobs. (D’s major requires her to continue into grad school.) Miami has been good for our family, but everyone has to find their own place.
