Harry Potter fans?

The Half-Blood Prince is out today!

I was at the book store yesterday from 8 PM to 1 AM so I could get my copy. I even dressed up as a wizard! Whoot whoot.

Haha! I didn't dress up as a wizard (that would've required too much... y'know... planning for the summer), but being at the bookstore from 8 to 1 definitely sounds familiar. I just finished reading it 5 minutes ago, great stuff. Had to wait until 10 AM to start, though, 'cause my sister got it first (she's younger, and reads faster, so she beats me on both counts), and then I had to take a lunch break in the middle... (darned stomach), but overall, the experience of just sitting down and being completely immersed in it, after a good 4.5 hours of sleep, was WELL WORTH IT!!!

The book is too long. I'll wait until the movie comes out. It is economically more efficient!

Yeah, and by the time the movie comes out, I'm sure your friends will have talked about it enough in your presence that you just won't even need to see the movie at all! (because you'll already have the gist of the story)

entropicgirl...let's dress up and go to the midnight showing of the GOBLET OF FIRE...

i'll drive!! =)

Too long! Don't judge a book by its number of pages, or the thickness of its spine. The writing in the HBP is lightning-paced - the plot moves marvellously quickly. Many, many fans will be able to finish it in less than 12 hours, with various meal and bathroom breaks in between. It took me a longer time to read The Little Prince, tiny little book as it is, because it moves slowly (and obviously can't catch our interest the way HP does). Same with the Old Man and the Sea, Animal Farm and various other 'short' books.

I'm really, really pleased with the HBP. Rowling, you genius woman, I bow to you.

I like the idea of dressing up to GOF. I'd make a good Hermione - bushy brown hair, slightly large front teeth. I just need witch robes and a hat. Nghi, can you fit an extra witch in your car?

I thought the pacing of HBP was significantly faster than the other ones. I'm a little bit disappointed that there wasn't more to it - more backstory, more delving into the past of other characters, blah dee blah. but i did love it. and flipping crap, how long do we have to wait for the last one?

i'm so going to the GOF screening. :D and the movies don't do the books justice. you kinda have to see them as mutually exclusive entities in some respects. or at least, i do. laaahh deee dahhhhh bye!

omg you guys haha let's organize an outing to see the GOF (my favorite book in the series so far!)

(and nkay...of course!)

Yeah, we should all dress up and go! It'll be so fun, several cars/buses full of black-robed, pointy-hatted university students lining up at the local cinema. When's the film coming out? I know it's sometime in November, but I don't know the exact day.

POA is my fave in the series :D I adore Lupin and Sirius. though I have a very soft spot for the first one - it's so innocent, so spare in terms of the writing - a perfect reflection of Harry's mental attitude and innocence. And so funny. Mimblewimble.

Haha!!! I'm so in. And I'll second that soft spot for the first one ... I've read it many more times than could possibly be healthy. SO good.

I LOVE "MIMBLEWIMBLE"! :) nitwit, oddment, blubber, tweak. or something. :)

Wow! You guys are fanatics too! Yes, I was one of those people who read it in under 12 hours. (How many books would you sit and read for 12 hours straight though?! Harry is da man.) I absolutely loved it. I thought it was probably the best book so far (though I could never pick a favorite) ... but ugh, she killed my favorite character (though I knew that would happen eventually) ... I have a feeling 7 is going to be dark. Can't wait!

Alrite guys, my sister just finished reading the book. I'm gonna give it a shot tomorrow, see what all the hype is about. I'm rooting for Voldemort though haha

woohoo! i've already read it. man, i love harry potter, i would just like to state that for the record.

its great because i'm a little harry crazy and the ending still totally blew me away. i love that. i mean, i thought like jellybean, that it would happen, but i would have bet money it would have been in book 7. well, i'm glad i didn't bet money.

remember you guys! no spoilers! i'm on chap 6 lol

Don't worry, we shan't say a thing.

I love the little things in the books, the things that are of no significance to the plot. Like in book one:

"It was the dearest ambition of many to give Mrs. Norris a good kick"

"The white mice disappeared, and Harry had a nasty feeling that they were going to end up as Mrs. Norris' Christmas dinner"

"He [Uncle Vernon] made a funny sound, like a mouse being trodden on"

I love Rowling's sense of humour. Drunken coats-of-armour, books that make you speak in limericks for the rest of your life, a ghost that haunts the girls' bathroom. She has such a wonderfully sharp eye for the humorous and the ridiculous.

HBP: an excellent, excellent book. sigh but the cliffhanger ending...unbearable... 2 more years.

The worst part is that we have to hope for 2 more years -- what if it's three?!
