No problem Kadieblue ask away!

sadiedhk: Any idea of when notices will be mailed, emailed, etc.?

Last year acceptances came the last week of March and arrived in a skinny envelope:)

Jumping on here partly to say hi to some other Hartt moms! D is AT, class of 2016. To someone who asked-- no, AT’s can’t audition for musicals – musicals and plays are in rehearsal at the same time. But AT’s can study with the vocal coaches – D has been going to master classes and deciding who she hopes to study with next year.

She lives in the complexes, dorms older than Hawk Hall, and smaller. The complexes have 14-15 people on a floor with two communal bathrooms and a common room. D preferred that layout and her room is very nice. But Hawk is great too.

Class of 2016 is 11 AT’s and 24 MT’s. They’re just a wonderful, bright, serious, talented group and D says it feels like a family. Her shadowing experience last year was wonderful and a true foreshadowing of this year-- she has loved her teachers, classmates, felt challenged and inspired every step of the way.

And I felt the way you did after the loss of Kevin Gray-- Sadiedkh-- it affirmed that D was at the right school. The day after his death the whole theater dept. gathered and spent 2 hours singing, his songs from Phantom, Seasons of Love, etc. She said it was the most beautiful and poignant day of her life.

sadiedkh,

you’ve offered to answer some question in regards to the Hartt school on a “admisisons” thread a few days ago. My daughter has been accepted into the MT program and I did post the following question to you on the “admissions” thread but I guess it just got lost. We are planning to visit end of April (I know a little late but we wnat to catch one or both shows). So here is a copy of my questions to you. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer.

A lot of questions have been answered already by reading other conversations…but here are a few for you and your daughter. As, most of us know, Kevin Gray past, we are very sad about this as everyone else is and our hearts go out to his family, his students and the faculty. I know he was very loved, we only met him once but he left such a huge impression on us that we; as a family decided this is the school!!! Actually everyone that we came across was lovely, Alan & Jan Rust are very pleasant as well.
Questions:
- Is there some idea of replacement for Kevin?
- How much interaction is there with the University of Hartford students?
- We are planning to visit, end of April…which show should we come see… The “Drowsy Chaperone” or “Big River”? (its ok to be partial if your D is in either one or both of the shows)

Thanks so much. I am sure I can think of more as time goes on.

Sorry, I must’ve missed your question! I have not heard direct communication about Kevin being replaced, but that being said, I assume he will be. D did not sign on for Hartt knowing Kevin would be part of the team, and while his loss is huge, it doesn’t change her or my feelings about the program and the team. Kevin certainly added a new and exciting dimension to what was already in my opinion a top program, But the work continues, the kids continue to learn, and while they miss him every day, they will go on.

Interaction with the University population as a whole is in my opinion sort of limited and may be influenced by your daughter’s housing situation. As somebody mentioned previously, a few MT’s have joined sororities, D did not. her social world is happily comprised of other MTs and other Hartt students - AT, VP, Music Ed, Music Business - with a few all-university kids thrown in for good measure!

While you are visiting I would see as many shows as possible, Drowsy is definitely on our must-see list ;-)

sadiedkh,

thank you so much for a quick reply. It sounds like the place for my daughter. I’ve only heard great things about the MT kids at Hartt and the Hartt school and there faculty as a whole. Very exited!

sadiekh,

we are booking our tickets tomorrow…my daughter is so ahead of herself that she feels like her question can not wait. So, here it is: What is the size of the beds? She is shopping for bedding already :-)

hahahah twin extra-long. I so understand this!

Gwen, thanks a bunch. It’s so weird, after all these super intense month, a simple questions like this… Thank you for replying.

HI….We are leaving Wednesday evening for a visit my daughter is super excited, is scheduled to mirror a student for the day staying until Sunday there is an open house/ Orientation for the University on Saturday we signed up for that as well!!! Looking for thoughts on safe nearby hotels, (i know there is some on the University Of Hartford website but the list is within a 10 mile radius…renting a car is it fairly easy to get around with phone GPS?

Are you flying, Midden? If so you might want to stay near the airport. I usually stay in the Marriott Courtyard across from West Farms Mall. It’s safe, clean, nice, has breakfast… but it’s about 20 minutes away. I don’t have a gps but just printed out a map and it was fine. I think they’re building a big hotel in the center of West Hartford, but for now there’s nothing really close.

Gwen, we are flying in and the Marriott sounds like a good choice THANKS!!

Midden- The Holiday Inn Express - near the Hartford airport is also very popular. From what I was told. THIs particular hotel offers a University of Hartford discounted rate. We will be visiting closer to the end of april. Just booked our flights.

Midden-- Are you flying to Bradley Intl? If so it might make sense to stay nearer there than either the Marriott or the Holiday Inn (which is near the Brainard airport, a smaller one south of town). Lots of hotels have a discount for the U of H.

If you fly to Bradley there’s a Hampton Inn right there. (and some others). Otherwise you’d have to drive well past the University to get to your hotel.

We are flying into Bradley airport so I will look near there…again I’m sorry but that is not to bad of a drive to the University right?

It’s an easy half-hour drive Midden. You’ll be fine!

Thanks Gwen!!! Somewhere on these threads Gwen or sadiedkh mentioned a cool shopping area near by to visit while daughter is spending the day in classes but I can’t find where you mentioned that now…would you mind repeating that info? thanks

Might have been me-- Blueback Square, or West Hartford Center, is a very nice area of shops and cafes, about 2 miles from campus, along Farmington Avenue. And WestFarms Mall, another few miles south, is a great upscale mall. Two good spots to hang out while your D is in class. Have a great time, Midden, and I hope your D feels at home there!

Thanks Gwen I’m sure I will be checking it all out!!!
