Geez, I always think any SAT score over 700 sounds right for these Ivies and anything that starts with a 6 isn't big enough. You only have to check around CC to meet w/ a lot of kids who got like 800 in three SAT IIs. Anyway that's just an impression. Any of you guys feel the same?

I feel like my scores (esp SAT I) are nowhere comparable to some of these crazy kids' perfect scores. it makes me sad :( Especially when you see that some of them didnt even make it in.

What score did you get that makes you so depressed? You've got all these ECs and rankings to dazzle them with.

i am NOT getting in - 2070 (730 V, 690 M(!!!!), 650 W) ..i messed up on MATH! sigh...i feel so weird cause i usually suck at verbal (600's) and get closeto or 800's on M and W..did they mess up my test?...

I looked at my verbal and was soooooooo happy..then scrolled down. blah! 690 M?! and 650 W,,,wah.

I've got a 2150 (720M/720V/710W). My SAT IIs are really good, but I really want to raise my regular SATs to a 2250 if I can.

ali_liu, please calm down! your scores are not at all as bad as you think they are. remember: IT HAPPENS TO THE BEST OF US!

I'm applying early action to Harvard as well. I'm not going to post my stats though, seriously, you'd just laugh. But I have hope.

I'm applying EA.

Maybe you've seen my stats elsewhere on this site.

If you haven't, you don't want to... they're nothing special...

shainaloves: look at my stats (in profile). no way you'd expect me to get in after being deferred.

harvard is very odd with its acceptances. it has the ability to take the students that they want... which makes it that much harder to predict chances.

My problem is that I am a very intellectually diverse person with many interests, many awards, many extracurriculars and volunteer hours, and perfect grades. But my standardized tests scores are simply above average. Not Ivy League material, and it makes me nervous.

eh, the thing Ive heard about your situation is that your SAT scores shouldnt be your biggest worry - your "many interests" should be. See, I have a lot of different EC's and I hold officer positions in all of 'em and ppl have told me that this shows "no direction" and "no passion".. So make sure they can really see what youre interested in on the app.

I will apply EA.

I have a 35 composite on ACT.
SAT 1 2270 (740 M, 740 CR, 790 W).
SAT 11 2350 (800 Chem, 800 World History, 750 Math2c)

Class rank 1/295

Math is my best subject, but my SAT scores seem to indicate otherwise. I am conflicted on taking SAT 1 again....

SAT scores should not be your biggest worry. Your essays and interviews should be stellar.

I'm a Toronto student enrolled in the IB program at my school. My SAT score was okay, I suppose (in the 2200s range). However, I did participate in the Canada-Wide Science Fair this May, and I wonder how much emphasis HYPS place on EC's such as that. Would it be counted as any other EC, or would it given additional attention?

P.S. ali_liu, SAT scores is but ONE factor admission officers look at when they consider applicants.

RoryGilmore (haha): Your SAT score is fine if it is in the 2200s range. There is only emphasis on the major national awards such as Intel or ISEF. However, ECs and essays are all about presenting yourself in the best light possible.

After some observing and eavesdropping;) I think top-of-the-tops like Harvard don't emphasize numbers so much as relatively competitve ones do. They like you all right if you got pretty adequate scores (enough to say you're not a big idiot) and a dazzling personality. So the way to show off to them must be thru your essays, ECs and LoRs. Anyway I don't know why they want so much personality if most of the things their students do involve burying themselves in the library

i think if you're score is 2200+ you shouldnt retake the SAT.

why? because everyone has generally above avg stats. i really think its other things, and your "passion", that get you in.

bump........

UPDATE: I May not go EA...admissions is TOO RANDOM TO PUT MY EA Eggs in One Basket...I WILL GO RD-By RD Dates my ECs and TEST SCORES could be much better...

Well you may do awesome on your retakes and then you'll be right back on the harvard wagon. :) I'm applying too, but RD. That is, if my counselor lets me. I go to a 'progressive' private school (read: playhouse for the rich offspring of former hippies) and the administration is really into encouraging people to not apply to 'name' schools for the name. Never mind that 30% of the senior class goes to Ivys in the end. And I like Harvard for Harvard, not for the name! Does anyone else have this issue?
