I have a question about the supplement- I really want to write about my experience at Harvard Summer School, which changed my life. But I don’t want them to think that I’m just writing about their summer school because that’s where I’m sending the essay. Do you know what I mean? I truly wonder how many applicants to harvard write about their summer school experience there. It just seems like a clich

^ I think if you can make it work, your essay can still stand out. There’s no way to write an essay on a topic that no applicant has ever touched upon, so it really falls upon how you go about it. Good luck!

Question here: about that extra form guidance has to fill out, are we expected to mail only those pages in? I’m assuming the part given through the common app site can be filled out online. Should I write my commonapp id somewhere on the form?

I’m pretty sure it has to be mailed in. I didn’t put my commonapp id anywhere, but that might have been a good idea. It does ask for name, DOB, and high school though so they should be able to match it up without any problems

I finally submitted! I just sat there staring at the submit button for so long. And then freaked out slightly. April 1st seems so, so far away.

Extremely nervous for my interview tomorrow night! Any idea what sort of questions they ask except Why Harvard? and Why you?

Why do you guys submit your apps so early!

i’m probably sending mine in a few days

Well they suggested that you submit by today so that they could get everything processed without getting everybody’s application around January 1, but really, I just wanted to get it out of the way

Do they actually start reading apps before Jan. 1, or is the recommended deadline just to get everything organized? I submitted Common App + Supplement yesterday, but have yet to send school docs etc.

Says they do, on their website. Completed apps, after Dec. 1, will be read, and interview arranged.

Just got back from my interview. Started at about 8:10, got out about 8:50. I don’t think it could’ve been better. It was amazing :D

Yes they start reviewing applications on December 1 in the order that they were submitted

Wow, that’s a short interview.

^ Most interviews range from 30 minutes to an hour.

Yeah, mine was a little bit over an hour. My interviewer was great!

really? the deadline isn’t 12.1? it’s like they’re kidding us by saying explicitly on their Supplement that “please return this form to us BY Dec.1”

Image of Harvard drops thousands of feet from all the confusion they give people about deadlines.

At least, unlike Yale, they don’t try to dictate the length of your Common App essay (apparently missing the concept of the “Common” App…).

Wow I cannot believe the plethora of language enthusiasts on this forum. I often find myself trying to master the linguistic arts from time to time. When I was five years old my father was an ambassador to Kenya and I went to international school there. I was SOOOOO lucky to study under African click language master Dr. Omaguo Naironigo…It was an absolute dreeeammmmm!!! This experience was only surpassed by learning Amazonian languages when I studied in the deep forest with the Kombai tribe. Last winter when hunting boars I learned the language of the bushman of Kungao. They even made me one of their warriors!!!So let that be known!!! Harvard Class of 1994!!!

That absolutely fails to be funny.

Preach it, Brother!
