HARVARD...am I here?

I'm SUPER SUPER obsessed with chances!

I would be appling ED.

How much is rank hurting me? Killer, unique essays, but I'm sure Harvard gets all kinds of godly stuff. Thanks in advance!

Sweetie, as we said before, you have very, very good chances. I'm just hesitant to be too exuberant because Harvard is harsh. They probably don't get "godly" stuff, maybe some "angelic" applicants, but not godly. You're right up there with the cupids, but Harvard has been known to shoot down deities.

Ruminating over chances doesn't make your chances better, but it can drive you into therapy. You can go ahead and post in various places to get different opinions if you wish; then I can make more sugar-puns (ha! a pun in itself!)

My cousin lives in Temecula ^_^! I know this doesn't pertain to the thread..Oh well.

haha...nice puns!

I think it depends on what kind of school you attend, background and income. URMs don't just get an easy admit. If you are from a background with many issues and go to an inner city school, the 30 may fly. If you are amiddle class URM who went to a good school and has educated parents (pretty much describes me) I don't think it will.

yeah, i thnk ppl tend to overexaggerate the bonus being a URM gives some applicants. When I tell ppl my black female cousin didn't get into Princeton with a 1510 SAT, they gasp.

But I'll give my own opinion:
your SAT II scores are great, but your ACT could be higher, as well as your class rank.

95% of the admitted students are in the top 10% of their schools.

Good point, and the remaining 5% are the stars of the football team, URM or not.

Ya...well there isn't much I can do about the rank. I feel like I don't have to like be cutthroat about my rank. Maybe Harvard isn't for me, if that is what it takes.

im not going to lie to you, but there are several individuals both black and hispanic who are almost your carbon copy.

3.9-4.2 WGPA
29-32 ACT, 1300-1450 SAT
Average EC, sports

What you need to do, is write a good essay, get some more ec's next fall, get at least a 31 and preferablly a 32 on your ACT, and apply early with great recommendations.

Above all else, dont just come into the interview acting like IM BLACK AND IM SMART or IM HISPANIC AND IM SMART and expect to make it with just those 5 words.

Dont overvalue URM status, ESPECIALLY if your a middle class urm living in the near suburbs going to a relatively good school with at least one parent who attends or attended college.

There are indivduals who grow up in poverty, who defy odds and are able to get a 3.9-4.2 WGPA, 29-32 ACT, and average EC's who are urms. They will be picked because they struggled hard, and you have to show that as well, that you worked hard and you succeeded and still have more to accomplish.

Harvard is serious, so are all the ivy leagues, you need to be a very qualified person and look past your urm status becuase in all honestly its there but not to the extent that we urms want to believe.

It is what it takes.

It isn't for me then. I shouldn't have to be someone I'm not then.

now wait a minute... don't let one thread at a forum stop you from applying to a school you want to go to.

if you're still interested, why not at least give it a shot? u have a 0% chance if u don't apply.

Your attitude makes no sense. Any school has norms. Are you above applying because they won't automatically embrace what you offer? Just apply knowing the odds or go to a school that will appreciate you regardless!
