Harvard Applicants and Sleep

When I was in the heyday of high school, I was constantly making the decision whether or not I should stay up late to finish homework.

In the end, i spent 97% of my days sleeping at around 11:15 PM even though I knew most of my friends were sleeping much later, either for work or for fun.

I found that these extra hours of sleep were more vital than sleeping at 3 AM to finish a research paper or something.

Do you think that sleeping well past 12 was important in terms of your academic success or feel that sleep and grades are not bargaining chips, like myself?

i have averaged going to sleep at about 1230 throughout most of high school, not because of school work as i dont spend more than a couple hours on it every day, just because thats when i get tired. but thats just how my body works, i function just as well on 5 hours sleep as i do on 8.

yeah true man it really doesn't seem to be a matter of homework but of personal preference.

I think sleep is very important, and you have to listen to your body when it wants to sleep. If it wants to go to sleep at 7, go to sleep at 7..and same with 2am...

i just love going to sleep after a hard day's work..... prob the best time of the day!!!

Take it from a current college student: sleep counts!

I don't understand the people who pull all-nighters.

I get eight hours of sleep at any cost. If I haven't finished that reading...I was an idiot for goofing off earlier in the day, but sleep comes first.

And food, too.

Without proper sleep and nourishment, you won't function as well and your attention-span will be significantly weakened. I learned this lesson well, last semester.

it depends on the homework and my grade in the class and whether or not I’ll have time to do it during lunch the next day… usually, I’ve chosen sleep.

unfortunately, that has led to me writing a number of essays in the school library an hour before they were due… not a good idea. but I’ve still managed a 4.0!
