Are applicants who get likely letters usually students the university really, really wants? How many do they send out?
Yes. 300 of which 200 are recruited athletes @eabs97.Not recieving a likely letter; however, does not indicate you’re not competitive, in fact the vast majority of Harvard’s class of 2019 will not recieve one. Wish you good luck!
Does anyone know if it means something that I just had my interview today? The woman told me they needed to be done by this Friday, and I turned in my application on Oct 31.
I am in the same boat as you @inifinityman just that I am an IB student with a half-decent predicted. My EC’s are limited to dramatics and not that great. I guess the coolest thing would be that i wrote 4 scripts and directed two of those! Anyhow I am sorta expecting a rejection
do international students receive likely letters?
@dreamer3805 yes, but even more accepted applicants do not.
@dreamer3805 I live in a country that - believe it or not - has no E.C’s whatsoever in * any * school. The occasional sports team might exist, but school’s do not play against each other (and the being on the team is not really counted as an E.C). So do * be * happy with what you managed to accomplish, even if you don’t get into Harvard
So have people started getting rejection letters? I know this sounds sorta negative but just curious considering we most of the people who didn’t get rejection letters passed the first screening?
@dreamer3805
Everybody gets their decisions at once including acceptances, waitlistings, and rejections. There are no screenings.
@Hawkace Not necessarily true. My DD just got a phone call today congratulating her on an acceptance. The admissions officer said a formal letter will follow.
@LaxDad777
That’s not what I meant. Likely letters are a completely different story.
@Ghfdw17 Oh cool, you’re from Saudi Arabia? Which schools did you apply to?
OK, Gotcha
@Hawkace I meant according to the admission process followed at Harvard, found an old video in The Crimson.

So I went ahead and did it. I had been saving A Very Potter Musical to get me through Ivy Day, but I cracked and watched. IDK what I’m going to do with myself come that day in late March lol
@emenya at least you’re in the same/similar timezone #internationalapplicantproblems
@dreamer3805 No rejection letters (other than those who were rejected in December’s EA program) have been issued. Everything will come out on ivy day.
However, in the distant past, applicants were mailed a postcard that said ‘likely’ or ‘unlikely’ – how about them apples?
@T26E4 Wow, I wonder has anyone posted about the “unlikely” letter ?
@frodosdojo: the “unlikely” postcards: we’re talking about *decades ago…
Probably the mid 70s.
I thought they send likely letters around January-February only, but there are kids receiving them this month… weird
