Harvard Class of 2021 SCEA Applicants Discussion

Well darn… I’m a West Coast applicant and am utterly terrible with anticipation so I’ll just have to see if I can control myself!

@katz2410 Yeah, I meant what @ivyleaguedreamen said.

Does anyone really know if decisions have been made? @MedSciBud, I know you’re a Gibby in training, so I hope you might know lol :slight_smile:

@QuestioningAll Mine was 871 words. But it was a really personal essay, and I don’t think any word count, unless it’s inhumanely long, will ruin you.

Mine was about 850. Agreed.

@VeckaTmiest If I get accepted I’d definitely be excited I think I’d just tell everyone Ik and go on with my day that way (considering my parents would be working and we won’t be able to celebrate that day :frowning: ). If I got rejected or deferred…I’d probably be depressed and sleep knowing Id have to churn out more apps throughout Xmas break :’(

@dwxc17 There’s no quota based on city location. H accepts whom they want, when they want. They don’t need to “spread the wealth” to placate principals or schools. A school can get five admits one year and zero for the next fifteen. It’s all up to the strengths of the individuals applying

I suspect they are 99.9% decided.

How is everyone calming their nerves in this last week? I can’t stop thinking about this, it’s killing me…I KNOW for a fact I’m 99.9% not getting in but I can’t seem to find motivation to do anything else till it comes back! We should all do something together to distract ourselves in this last week :slight_smile: Like read a book together and discuss it?

@skieurope Thank you

@SummerSearching Just do other college apps, study for finals, watch YouTube videos, but DO NOT GET ATTACHED TO HARVARD by stressing yourself out. To you, Harvard is dream; to them, you’re another student. Don’t get attached to them; otherwise, if you get a rejection, it’ll be painful. Be free; be yourself.

@fedfan1998 YEP, I should probably do other apps…I will get a rejection/deferral and I don’t know how to prepare not to be crushed. It’s like as much as I keep preparing myself for rejection my brain still has this stubborn hope. Oh well. I really, truly hope you all get in…I love everyone here, and I can’t fully express how damn proud I am just to even be a part of this community. Five years ago, I never would have guessed I’d be applying to Harvard - frankly, I could barely spell Harvard back then. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and I’ll be okay no matter what…best of luck to you all. I’ll check back in periodically but I think I’ll try to stay away until after 5 PM on Tuesday.

I’ve churned out most of my apps thus far with the exception of a notable one or two (shhh Rice, I like you too but I just can’t answer your questions properly), so there’s not as much stress there but I’m just tired of worrying so much about my first semester grades, especially since I’m doing classes and whatnot at Reed (with an A minus, EEK!) and am deathly terrified of missing some assignment in one of my community college courses… god this is nervewracking. I would celebrate my face off if I got accepted but I’m thinking of getting sushi and celebrating the process otherwise… can’t be bitter I suppose! :stuck_out_tongue:

How many other schools are you guys applying to? Are you guys applying to a mix of types of schools?

Applying to about 10 others, mainly half LAC and half research. Three safeties, too.

Mostly Ivies. If I get into Harvard 2 more schools. If not then probably a couple more.

Do you guys know if the admissions and financial aid office goes on winter break as long as the students(5-ish weeks in dec/jan) or is their’s shorter cz they work there?? I really need to know when I could get a FA package (if I got in) and sent in my css in late December…Hope this q makes sense. @skieurope maybe you know?

@yerin2021 I’m not sure that one has anything to do with another. They do not have 5 weeks off, but I don’t know when you will get your FA package.

@skieurope How are you 99.9% certain that Harvard already made its decisions D: If that’s true then its really scary…

I have question and not sure if it is right for this forum. All the ED/RD results threads have recommendation letters ratings(1-10). How do you know how good was your recommendation letter as we waive the right to see them.

@rsmith0208 Idk I always assumed it was based on the applicant’s self-measured relationship with the recommender, but some recommenders can talk about the letter or read it to the applicant if they want to.

When are admission results coming out this year?
