@yuvanni @krauser126 I’m an immigrant as well!!
@2021applicant To say that “Computer Science is a fairly new field” is quite a huge mistake. Harvard’s CS50 is a gold standard for intro CS coursework
Since we are talking about CS here I think I need to jump back in the discussion.
CS50 is NOT gold standard. It’s a great course but “GOLD” would be an exaggeration. It’s only been marketed well. It’s all a marketing strategy by harvard.
Moreover Harvard has a small CS program as compared to others like Stanford, Cornell, UC Berkeley, MIT etc.
Now although that might not always mean that it improves your chances of getting in, there’s certainly a slight boost if Harvard wants to expand its CS program this year. which I think it certainly wants to if it wants to compete with the other top colleges.
No one goes to Harvard because it has a great CS program. You would be better off at MIT or the other colleges I previously mentioned for that. It’s the connections, the diversity, the experience that makes Harvard special and a reason for one to attend.
Actually from a broader perspective, academics is rarely a matter of worry at top colleges. You are going to learn the same CS concepts no matter which college you go to. It’s usually more about the environment in which you are studying. That’s why it’s good to know WHY a particular college is a good fit for you. Colleges are holistic while choosing you, but that means even you should be holistic while find a college which is a right fit for you. It’s not just about academics.
OK – I exaggerated about CS50. haha
Since posting links isn’t allowed. Please google “i did not take cs50 tumblr” to know more about what I am talking about.
By the way I am an indian applicant who’s applied SCEA for Computer Science major as a first choice although it is declared much later once in college.
Computer Science is my HOOK or a spike as the Prepscholar people like to call it.
I look forward to meeting you guys at Harvard. We might not meet at CS50 though(lol) since I will most probably skip it.
Anyways. Let’s focus on getting accepted FIRST.
@seeadmit
which city? Got an interview?
So decisions come out Dec 13? Getting super nervous to see if I got in or not to be honest. I’m going for astrophysics and i’m hispanic, and hopefully that helps.
Have we any confirmation that results come out the 13th at 5 PM EST? It seems historically that results are always on a Thursday and a Crimson article isn’t much proof.
@SummerSearching - that article and the author’s emails are the only indications we have at this time. If results don’t show up on 12/13 at 5pm, we will all wait for whenever it does.
The wait is absolutely excruciating
Is anyone else becoming filled with more and more self-doubt as each day goes by? :((
Me here with you @TheCrimsonBulldog
@TheCrimsonBulldog totally me, but good luck!
the penn thread has me feelings so nervous. so many rejections & deferrals eek
Penn decisions are out already?
@krauser126 They came out today, Cornell was yesterday, Stanford is today at 6pm EST. Seems like a lot of rejections from the ivies so far, feeling more and more nervous for my chances lol
You think rejections were high at Penn and Cornell? Wait until they start posting the Stanford results. Stanford defers very few applicants; it’s pretty much either accept or reject.
@johonmilla Hey! I’m hispanic and going for astrophysics too!
Harvard Admissions replied to me regarding the date of the decisions:
"Hello,
We are saying mid December, just in case it takes an extra day or two.
Best,
Harvard College Admissions"
Therefore, it might not be on December 13th. Hoping that it will though.
