Have any of you watched Ivy Dreams on youtube?
Does anyone know if being from the Greater Boston Area helps or hinders my chances of being accepted?
@TheCrimsonBulldog I would say you’re in a larger, and therefore probably slightly more competitive applicant pool. Many kids who wouldn’t otherwise apply to Ivies might apply to Harvard because it’s in their backyard. But then again, those probably aren’t the most competitive candidates. Harvard is looking for geographic diversity, however. I wouldn’t fret about it though- I’m sure you’re a strong candidate
Am insanely stressed. I just wish they’d release the decisions ASAP…
Thanks for the reply, @pineapple86. During my interview, the alumnus to whom I was assigned said that geography would likely be the only explanation if I were to be deferred, so, naturally, I’ve been stressing about that one comment for days. :))
Currently there’s only one Taiwanese student attending Harvard College…two graduated this year. I really hope I get to fill in the gap.
I guess that makes my chance a teeny weeny bit higher (compared to Chinese/Korean/Indian students)? But then again Taiwanese people are Asian and I really don’t know if I’ll be considered an URM or ORM.
Oh my god, I’m so nervous.
@TheCrimsonBulldog Being from Boston is a plus factor, actually, according to some actual Harvard admission officers. Your interviewer is freaking you out for nothing, lol.
@TheCrimsonBulldog I come from a medium-sized town in MN and my interviewer told me that out of nearly 70 applicants from my region, only 2 were accepted, and they were nearly identical recruited athletes. I don’t know for sure if he included Minneapolis in that number, but I don’t think he did.
Geography does matter, but it’s not everything. Stay hopeful!
Do you know what is scary? Out of the 25 applicants on the pledge thread, and a hypothetical 16% SCEA admit rate, only 4 kids are getting in.
Scary projection @barackhussein
@barackhussein applicants who are determined enough to spend their time lurking college application forums are not going to be a representative sample of even Harvard candidates. I’ll be surprised if there aren’t more than 4 acceptances.
Hey guys. Joining back on. I’m @z12332 but my account got messed up so I’m using this one while the mods investigate. I’m literally so nervous I’m bitting my nails off. Any tips for extreme anxiety
Nah @barackhussein we’re a top notch group
Fair points.
@jamieevren1210 idk, a couple of harvard students I personally know are from Taiwanese immigrant families. So I’m assuming by “Taiwanese” you mean like a Taiwan local? also as far as I know every year H accepts no more than 10 applicants from China and we have a huge student population, so there’s that
As far as I’m aware, I’m the only SCEA Harvard applicant from my school, but I know that a couple kids applied RD to Harvard.
Just finished my post for the results thread on Tuesday. Fingers crossed, but I’m bracing myself for a deferral.
Yeah. I would assume that those holding US/Taiwan double citizenships would be applying as non-internationals (to max admission chances/be eligible for more financial aid/idk) so that one student probably has Taiwanese citizenship only (like me). I really don’t know though…
Edit: ran a search. OIA says that there are currently 59 students from China attending Harvard College, and, um, 1 from Taiwan. So it’s ~15/y for you guys and ~0.25/y for us XDDDD
Yet another anxiety-inducing question: who’s hyped for the Sherlock Series 4 release on January 1st? I’m freaking out.
Where do I pledge to report?
