Hello all. I've been trying to look for stats on each department in the GSAS and the acceptance rate for each one. However, I keep getting statistics that vary all over the board. I would like to get some accurate answers and thought you could help. Thank you.

The acceptance rate will vary between the 5 degrees awarded at the more than 50 departments and divisions in the GSAS; as well the rates vary year-to-year. I don’t think that there’s any central clearinghouse for these figures; you may want to contact the individual department of your interest for this info. In any case, such numbers probably aren’t very useful to applicants who are trying to find faculty and research fits, not doing the numbers.

Why? I can’t imagine a reason why anyone would need the statistics on every one of the departments at Harvard’s GSAS, unless they were writing a book or taking the unadvisable step of trying to figure out which is the “least” competitive so they could get into any graduate program at Harvard.

That’s what I wondered. To cut to the chase, that would be the ALM at HES, with NO dis at HES where some of my friends have studied with satisfaction.
