How soon do they contact for interview? I submitted my application over 3 weeks ago and I am in a large city with a lot of Harvard alumni.
Oh, jeez – it’s the week between Christmas and New Year’s. Many alumni are spending time with their families and don’t want to interrupt their busy schedules to interview students. So, give it a while --at least until the end of January.
I applied on December 31st and was contacted to set up my interview today (January 2nd), so I think it depends on your location. I live in San Diego and we have a decently sized Harvard Club that holds the interviews here.
Should I contact Harvard? I applied on December 5. I live in a large city with a lot of Harvard alumni.
The short answer: No. After you press the submit button, Admissions forwards your contact information to one of Harvard’s local alumni Associations. Beyond that, Harvard Admissions has no say over when you might be contacted for your interview.
If you’re concerned about not having been contacted, google “Your City Harvard Alumni Association” and see if there is a contact person responsible for recruiting alumni interviewers and contact them directly. For example, if you live in the Pittsburgh area google “Pittsburgh Harvard Alumni Association.” The first hit will be: http://www.harvardwpa.org. Navigate to Get Involved ==> Become an Interviewer: http://www.harvardwpa.org/article.html?aid=101 and contact that individual with a pleasant email saying “I applied to Harvard a month ago and haven’t been contacted by anyone for an alumni interview.”
