Harvard is my safety, right?

What's your passion? If you don't have one, then just make one out of the EC that you enjoy most. When filling out your application, it doesn't have to be your "passion" passion.

like what do i want to get as a major, passion?
or what i really like doing?
Major would be either business or economics.
then what i really like doing is leadership. i have a good idea for an essay, i wanted to talk about the feeling of things "working"

Dartmouth is the best at getting its students elite business jobs among the Ivies after HYP and Wharton.

Why do you want to attend Harvard? Hopefully not just because its an Ivy. In my opinion, it is a terribly overrated school, and it seems to be the end-all be-all for so many people. Believe it or not, you can get success without an Ivy ;) But dont get me wrong, its a fantastic school, it simply isnt for everyone.

But anyway, I would say you have a pretty fair chance of getting in an Ivy. But those schools are about 60% luck, even if you are a fanstastic student, so dont be suprised if you are turned down. It doesnt mean you arent up to their level, you just got a bit unlucky.

Best of luck!

okay. yeah i just like the school. i dunno why, maybe it is the name. what are some other ones that i would like...

youre in. for sure. just dont mess up the essay, and youre good.

but as others said, apply to more schools. you never know what could happen..

What do you like about schools? A name seems like a silly reason not to like a place.

no no no. i would like to go to one with a name, but if i don't i'm not gonna be upset about it.
And plus Harvard has a really good economics program and is in one of my favorite cities. It is pretty much my dream.

But what makes you like a school? For example NYU has on of the most polarizing college experiences out there - many love it, many dislike it. Similarly Brown and Princeton are very different places than Columbia. Dartmouth is easily one of the top 4 Ivies at placing its graduates into finance and consulting. What makes you like a school besides the name?

i'm not sure. some people tell me good stories about places. a buddy of mine told me about Harvard, another about Columbia and then one about NYU.

Just curious, why don't you like Dartmouth-it has an outstanding economics department and an Eagle Scout might like the outdoor opportunities.

i live in oregon. there are so many outdoor things that i'm ready for the big city. it would be a really nice chance.

If I'm skimming correctly, I've read a lot of the "Why do you want harvard, you need better reasons because obviously you loving a good econ department and the city (among other reasons) isn't good enough!" sort of thing.

He wants to go there...let him. You don't have to fall deeply, in love... at first sight with a school (LOL @ the thought) or have fantasticular, top-notch reasons for wanting to attend a particular institution.

I think you have good chances, by the way.

cool beans. i would be so happy, its just sad tho, cuz my parents think i'm like a failure.

i think you should grab the "fiske" guide to colleges. It will help you put better understand which schools might be the right "fits".

i checked it out of the library... what do i do? i looked at Harvard, and it makes me wanna go there even more. :-/

gawd i wanna go to harvard so bad.. can I write a supplementary essay talking about how bad I want to go there?

yeah, on that guide, when it talks about Harvard's best programs, number one is econ.

why don't you like dartmouth? because of a non-existing reason similar to a non-existing reason (except for prestige) to applying to harvard? lol

Get over the fact that he doesn't like dartmouth, everyone obviously likes/hates different things and that includes certain schools.
