Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Penn, USC, Northwestern...

Hey I posted something for the first time a few hours ago and I wrote way too much and I think nobody responded because they couldn't really be bothered to read the whole thing (I would have done the same). So here is an abbreviated version:

SAT I: 1510 (760M, 750V)

GPA: 3.8 Weighted (obviously senior year way higher, 4.2 currently)

Awards etc.:

Honor Roll all grades thus far

Summer/Job exp:

Parish Thrift Shop regular volunteer

I'm coming from an extremely challenging and prestigious private high school and we are told that colleges take into account a lower GPA because of the difficulty of classes. The school doesn't rank or calculate GPA so I did it myself. In addition to all of the above, what will hopefully set me apart from other applicants is that I moved to the U.S. in 7th grade from England. I'm a dual citizen and given that I want to study poly sci or international relations I try and play up my transcontinentality.

If anyone could comment on what they thought about my chances at the following schools/programs I would be hugely appreciative, especially Penn's Huntsman Program as I need to write an essay for it fast if I decide it's worth applying for:

Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Dartmouth, Penn (Huntsman Program?), Stanford, Northwestern, Georgetown School of Foreign Service, Williams, BU, GW, USC, Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD. I know it's a lot but i've employed the strategy of the more you apply to, the better your chances of getting into one - a college counselors worst nightmare. By the way my essays and recs should all be great. Anyhoo thanks a lot,

Tim

Though I dont know much, I think you are a wonderful candidate for most of the schools you apply.
For Harvard,Princeton,Stanford,Columbia, you need a bit of luck.
I think you can get accepted to,at least, one of those fours.

please more help?

i fear that ur application might just be lost in the 15000 that HYP gets...and u have a high chance of getting rejected. its tough. u founded a club. cool. but what club is it? a Leftists club...and what does it do? u gotta SHOW that u have done something with it...

Nothing particular stands up.. decent stats but not perfect. You really need a hook.

Here it goes.. don't be offended, because I am giving my opinion.. :)
Harvard-- i'd be surprised if they accepted you
Princeton-- 10%, (40% given that your essays are killers.. since you write for your newspaper, i am assuming that you can write)
Columbia-- 30%
Dartmouth-- 30%
Penn (Huntsman Program?)-- 30%
Stanford-- 10%, (40% given that your essays are killers.. since you write for your newspaper, i am assuming that you can write.. show your personality in those short answer essays man!)
Northwestern-- 50%
Georgetown School of Foreign Service-- 60-70%
Williams-- dunno too much about LACs
BU-- shoo in
GW-- shoo in
USC-- shoo-in
Berkeley-- 50%
UCLA, and UCSD-- i'd be very surprised if you didn't get in.

Hope this helps

thanks a lot, appreciate the words - any other insights would be greatly appreciated

my words aren't gospel, but you sound ok to me......don't really see why you wouldn't get accepted anywhere....

Good chance at williams too

it depends alot on your exact rank after this semester, are you gonna be top 5%

If so, good shot at any college, but you have to make your application focused on what you want to do i guess

the 30% chance for Huntsman is very inflated...from my perspective. They are getting more and more selective each year, and anybody who thinks they have a 30% chance at Huntsman is on something (not implying you). Huntsman is at least on par or even higher in selectivity than HYP. Last year, they "over-admitted" some kids, so, my estimate is that they have already filled at least half of the Huntsman class during the ED rounds and there's about 10-20 seats open for RD...and they'll admit about 25 kids this year during the RD cycle for a class of around 40.

You have to make yourself stick out.

Good Luck, hope to see you next year at Penn. (HUNTSMAN ROCK!!! ED kid here..hehe).

thanks, in answer to nealious my school doesn't rank
