Harvard reclaims No. 1 spot on list of nation's top schools

"Order" is restored:

Harvard reclaims No. 1 spot on list of nation's top schools - CNN.com

ah, finally. :)

lol, I think usn&wr wants to spite Forbes.

The Forbes family has close ties to Princeton (other than a mere alum connection: endowed professorship, residential college, board of trustees stint)

Leave it to a Harvard student (or alum) to suggest that if Harvard's ranked anything other than number one, it must be the result of something nefarious.

For whatever it may be worth, here's something I posted earlier today on a related thread on the Princeton board:

Hey, anyone who thinks this change is anything other than utterly meaningless - as to anything that really matters - should be spending a lot less time on CC and a lot more time reading books (though, yeah, that probably goes for anyone who realizes it's meaningless, too).

And leave it to a Princeton student (or alum) to suggest that if Princeton's ranked anything other than number one, then the rankings have lost all meaning:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1060886461-post18.html

Can anyone else see Princeton suggesting that Harvard forged some documents about their class sizes or endowment size?

"You and I both live in the same world, does that class look like there's only 16 people to you?" (Pointing to a picture of a 50-person class.)

Go Harvard!

coureur:

Uh, didn't you catch the self-aware humor in the tone of that Princeton post?

umm...yay?

you'llsee:

Now, that's the spirit!

epistrophy:

Uh, didn't you catch the self-aware joking conspiracy theory tone to chronicidal's post?

coureur:

No.

(Unlike the Princeton post, chronicidal's post seems to be entirely serious. See, for instance: About Forbes College | General | General)

I find this ranking wrong on so many levels.

^^Don't worry about it. A ranking is basically nothing more than an opinion and meaningless to those who hold other opinions. There are dozens of rankings out there. Focus on the one that pleases you. Or if none of them do, make up your own ranking method.

You'd be surprised to know that rankings are much more than opinion based. They actually take data from each school and measure them up according to who is more impressing based on these stats. I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss USNWR.

^^Sure they collect a ton of stats, but the total score and final ranking is based on their opinion about what weight to assign these stats and which stats to collect and compile in the first place.

I have no problem with harvard getting the no 1 spot, but in all honesty, you guys are no better or no worse than princeton, yale and stanford

Lake Carnegie is reported to be at flood levels as Princeton Tigers' tears flow rapidly down Washington Ave following these USNWR developments. LOL.

Academically, there really isn't much difference between the top fifteen or twenty schools undergrad wise. However, HYPS have far better reputations.

Pointless as these rankings might be, it is still nice to see us back on top! (where we belong :-) haha)
