Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@aharper98 Just wanted to say that I do the exact same thing too with the blog link I gave them! Unfortunately I’m unable to see if anyone has looked at it from the state of Massachusetts specifically, but I noticed a huge spike in my stats today. It appears a visitor or two from the United States has been poking around quite a lot, including the post I made about why I love Harvard, so it makes me curious if that’s my admissions officer

@magic125 Care to share your Pinterest dorm board? I understand if you don’t or can’t for privacy reasons, but I absolutely love passing the time looking at dorm decor  (Or if you can pass on any other boards not by you filled with board decor? I don’t have a Pinterest myself but I’m considering getting one just to pass the time—ideally for the next 11-12 days, but if not then for the next 4 months)

@schroscat Hm, maybe bring the ones that are most important to you? I’m sure you could store it on your desk or on some sort of bookshelf? You could always conspire with your roommates to get this  http://9gag.com/gag/4831321/a-cool-unique-desk-made-out-of-books

@tuty143 Amen on that! I hate the College Board with a passion. It’s so awful that they charge another $11 when I try to send my scores to colleges, and even their CSS Profile (which I just filled out today—oops!) costs about $25 to submit.

@RandomRhino If Harvard actually accepts me, it’ll be safe to say that the couches in the common room will actually be comprised of books. I also have to consider the sheer volume of books I’ll be purchasing during the school year. To the drawing board!!! (Or the typing board…)

@RandomRhino I’m glad they at least look at everything to a certain level! Can you tell how long they spent on the site?

And I’m going to check if anyone from Massachusetts downloaded my apps! I totally forgot to check… Hopefully they didn’t crash hahaha

@RandomRhino wanna hear the worst thing? I rush ordered my subject tests for Harvard (November tests) and the college board said they were struggling this year and would not get them there in time! Wanted to just die right there. I paid extra for a rush order too. It’s been 5 days and the scores are still “pending” it’s so stupid.

@snackpack02 Well of course there are no guarantees that it’s even an admissions officer or anyone related to Harvard—could just be a nosy family member or random person who found it on Google. All I know it was about 15 views per visitor, with 4 out of 5 of those views coming from a viewer in the US. Honestly, I doubt it’s even anyone associated with Harvard now that I think about it—it’s the Sunday after Thanksgiving and I doubt they’d be viewing student blogs on their last day of break before the (I imagine) impending heavy work weeks to get decisions out by the end of next week.

@tuty143 I didn’t even bother sending in my Novemver SAT II’s because I knew they wouldn’t arrive in time for consideration. It’s all so insane with college application/college board fees.

@tuty143 are you at least getting a refund? Cause that kind of defeats the purpose of rush reporting

@tuty143 Friend of mine applying to a state school with a hard due date of December 1 is having the same issue. College Board is really dropping the ball this year.

@RandomRhino has the CB released a statement regarding their lackluster performance this year? This is the third time something has gone wrong this year! (June testing & Nov/Dec score reports)

I linked the site of a nonprofit I run on the Common App and installed Google Analytics, which allows me to track the location, demographics and web server of all my viewers (plus a bunch of other stuff). It gets 50+ hits a day which makes it difficult to track, but I’ve had multiple engaged hits from the Harvard server + a ton of anonymous hits on my LinkedIn! I think it’s so funny how they stalk us and we can stalk back :stuck_out_tongue:

@tuty143 I did the same thing and my scores were sent 15 days after I ordered it  If Harvard doesn’t contact you, then there shouldn’t be a problem. I read that you can get a refund, so maybe look into that .

@schroscat Yes, they said on their website that they recently switched to an “electronic version” of the score report. They updated and are taking a while to adapt.

@pubkid Wow! I guess that’s a good sign that someone probably has in fact checked out the links I put in my Common App! Although, it must be a little difficult because don’t they PRINT all the applications? That’d mean they’d need to manually enter any links we provided, wouldn’t it?

@Sajidur4 Thank you! I never looked into the issue after my scores were confirmed on the portal.

I didn’t provide a link… I just had the name of my app in my essay… Should I send them a link??

@schroscat June testing? What happened in June!

@randomrhino my link isn’t too difficult to type hahaha but I’d hope that they are willing to put in the extra couple seconds to type what you give them. Sites can be an important part of someone’s applications, and if they’re willing to view supplemental portfolios for art/science students, they should be willing to check out the equivalent for those of us whose extra info doesn’t fit the portfolio requirements

Do you guys think that if they think are half way through the app and decide you’re a good candidate that they go ahead and accept you and stop checking out your application? On that same note, if they don’t feel as if you’re a good candidate at the start do you think they stop reading your application half way through?

I hope they read the full application… I’m 99% sure they will at least glance through the rest for the latter case.

@tuty143 They misprinted the timing on one of the last sections on the SAT; some schools followed the incorrect format, while others followed the instruction manual that was provided for the proctors. For those that used the incorrect format, students were granted an extra 5 minutes on that particular section. Consequentially, the CB had to disqualify that section on all tests, and I’m pretty sure it negatively impacted scores.
