@pubkid Very true! I guess that’d be the equivalent of my “arts” supplement or something, so hopefully they do in fact take a look!
@aharper98 I don’t know, but I trust them when they say that they read everything you give them. I’m hopeful that for both good and bad applicants—particularly bad applicants—they read all the way through, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a kid with a 1500 SAT, 2.0 GPA, and no extracurriculars, they might not want to spend the time on them.
@aharper98@snackpack02 Ideally, an admissons counselor would read the entire application to get a good idea of the applicant, however, I’m not entirely sure if the full application is presented to the entire committee.
I believe the two preliminary readers make note of the important and pertinent details of the application. I think that is what is presented to the regional and full committees, assuming one does make it that far.
I hear they also put the essay up on the screen for the full committee
I sent a really cool photography portfolio and a video of me getting interviewed by Atlanta news. The latter was kind of goofy but spoke to my personality A LOT. The prior told a lot about my life.
Also I just wanted to say I appreciate how nice this little community is. I had a really bad encounter a couple days ago on cc and just about swore it off forever.
@schroscat Oh no! No arts supplement for me. That was just me trying to make a comparison between including a link to my blog in the additional information section to other students sending in arts supplements. So sorry if that wasn’t clear!
Hm, does anyone know if there’s an article somewhere that just outlines the steps our application goes through? I’m curious to know more about the chronological order of the path my app has taken, as well as more about the regional and full committees that @orionsagittarius has mentioned.
Glad we’re here for you @tuty143! CC has a lot of nasty individuals who are more intent on bragging or putting others down, so I’m glad we have a good group of people in this thread who seem fairly down-to-earth and aren’t particularly egotistical.
Yes! @RandomRhino posted a fantastic article entitled “Keys to The Kingdom” it outlines literally every step. It also makes you want to pull your hair out.
@RandomRhino No worries! I just read your input incorrectly.
And as per your other question, I believe after the application is “complete”, it goes to a regional board adcom. It is evaluated there, and if it is accepted, it will then be sent to Harvard. I am not entirely sure if there are any middle-adcoms in between, but that’s what I’m aware of. I’ll look for the article that was brought to my attention regarding this.
Hey guys I have a question-- I’m applying for this community service scholarship at another school and the lady who wrote me a recommendation sent me a copy of the letter and it’s fantastic. I was thinking of submitting it to Harvard so they could see another dimension of my application. How should I send it to them? Should she email it to them? or something more formal?
@gracie21 On the phone with admissions, the guy told me he loved it when people sent in recs like that. Outside of the application. But then again another admissions officer told me if I submitted another “Other recommendation” it would be too much for everyone to read.
Taking a look at the Keys to the Kingdom article right now. Does anyone else wish that they could know their personal/academic/extracurricular scores—regardless of whether we get in or not? If anything I’m just curious how an admissions officer “rates” me.
