@CDOESenior2k16 The thing that sucks is that I didn’t have as much time to study for exams because I was infiltrated with work–in a pit orchestra–for the entire quarter. My grades are not a reflection of my ability this quarter, and I’m rather scared that they’ll reject me because of my calc average.
Everyone calm down! just so everyone is aware, everyone listing their weighted grades, your weighting system is incredibly different from mine, which is a testament to how different our schools are! Thats how adcoms decide. They definitely take into account how competitive a school is and its size etc. So its ok to freak out, but remember all our schools are different!
@schroscat Try not to worry! (Hopefully) one grade won’t have that big of an impact… and hopefully they don’t request everyone’s grades
@CDOESenior2k16 I was hoping I’d be able to sleep tonight…guess not, haha. I mean, I got a 95 in AP Bio this quarter, which goes to show that I don’t suck in the sciences. I’m just…I’m so ashamed that I did so bad this quarter.
I think I’ll ask my counselor tomorrow…oh gosh i’m so stressed
well, at least there’s community college
I love how all you overachievers are like oh crap one B community college here I come! It’s soooooo funny
@flautamagica Except for me that’s literally the case, haha. If I don’t get in, I can’t really afford any of the other colleges I’m applying to. The only schools that will give me a full ride that I’ll be allowed to go to is community college and one SUNY. So yes, community college, here I come!
Ugh. Guys! you won’t be going to community college because of a B. Let’s keep everything in perspective! We are all amazing academically and extracurricularly. So keep your chins up!
@schroscat Try not to worry! I’m sure you can do it, but in the meantime do something to distract yourself from Harvard!
@schroscat allowed to go to? can you elaborate? There are plenty of other Ivy’s and prestigious schools that offer fantastic financial aid. And also many state schools would offer you full ride I’m sure.
Keep your mind off Harvard for now and watch some Netflix or invest yourself in your orchestra deal!
@tuty143 My mom never went to college, so she doesn’t know much about the system. So, she’s basically put forth that if I don’t get a full ride into any of the big schools that I’m looking at, I can’t go. I know there’s a plethora of great schools out there, but my mom doesn’t want me going far away for college, nor does she want me to go to a school she’s never heard of. Turkish people have only heard of Harvard, and ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been saying I’m going to go to Harvard; she’s grown accustomed to it, and I’m not sure if she’s willing to let it go. She doesn’t want me taking out loans either, which is also a huge problem.
@schroscat I’m pretty sure ivies like Brown will offer even more financial aid! I come from a relatively high income bracket (over 200,000) but we have unique financial conditions that have made it impossible for us to save money for college for me. Just using the net price calculator for Brown even I would only have to pay like 5,000 per year and with the whole student working thing to pay tuition, it’d be 2,500 per year for me. I’m assuming if you need a full ride to these schools you’d get even more money!
@schroscat I’m so sorry but do not limit yourself in terms of college. You do not need to go to community college (not a knock at community college it is good) when you have good full ride scholarships elsewhere. I understand she wont want you far away from home but you really should not put all your balls in the harvard court. Its a 6% acceptance rate and a super reach for anyone. Good luck.
Listen to @flautamagica !!! She’s saying exactly what I am!
@flautamagica I’m not so sure if I’d get into any of the other Ivies either, haha.
@tuty143 Thank you for the advice; I just need to stop stressing out so much, but I don’t even know how to calm down.
@schroscat Bake some cookies! There are a bunch of Christmas movies on TV right now too… those always put me in a good mood
@schroscat try rereading your favorite book! Or maybe just relaxing in a bubble bath. It’ll all work out.
@schroscat I think you’d have an even better chance at Brown than at Harvard (and considering how awesome your chances are at Harvard in my opinion, that’s a high chance).
@CDOESenior2k16 I mean, my biology textbook makes me pretty happy. My tv is currently occupied with Turkish soaps, so it’s not so Christmassy
@tuty143 Gah, I wish I had time to do all those nice things. I have so much work to do…and studying (because mid-year grades) I do not have a second to breathe. Maybe that contributed to my averages…haha.
@flautamagica Of course I’m applying if all goes wrong, but I’m just so incredibly nervous for Thursday. I don’t know if I can even think straight.
@schroscat I think your best bet for now is to stay off CC for the time being and drown yourself in homework. It’ll be tough but itll help keep your mind off things.
@tuty143 My teacher said the same exact thing today. Gah, I don’t even know how I’m going to stay away. We were writing a story last night!
