Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@flautamagica You should’ve seen me sprinting across a field with my drum!! Haha we had like 3 bass drums every year literally fall over because of the wind :))

@flautamagica I’m actually taking a gap year right now! I think it’s a great idea to take some time off after 12 years of school

@tuty143 I love watching the percussionists at all county band. Our conductor this year went nuts for the triangle.
During 7-hour rehearsal
Conductor: STOP!
we stop
Conductor: Show me the triangle
percussionists dings the triangle
C: Again.
dings
C: No, I don’t like that. Does anyone else have a triangle?
someone raises their hand
C: Please give it to her.
is given
C: Play it again.
dings
C: YESSS! I LOVE THAT TRIANGLE. MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THAT BEAUTIFUL TRIANGLE UP FOR EVERYONE TO SEE! YES!

@schroscat oh yeah if you’re planning on going the surgery route you definitely don’t wanna waste any time lol! Do you know what specialty? I’m thinking either neurology or invasive cardiology. I actually just recently became interested in invasive cardiology, a classmate passed away recently from some unknown heart condition and another person from my school passed away like 4 years ago from an unknown heart condition (both insanely healthy and athletic teens with no known heart problems) and I think it’d be fulfilling to find some way to find these kinds of conditions before they, ya know, kill people lol

@flautamagica I’m planning on moving to Yangon or Kathmandu this summer to to urban development research and I might end up trying to stay, but it’s relatively unlikely. Planning on taking the PhD track so I should probably get a move on :stuck_out_tongue:

@schroscat Omg I love that! haha yes surprisingly percussion is actually difficult, especially for marching band. But we have the most fun so…

@AnnaLuxe that’s awesome! What have you been doing so far/ what do you plan on doing? Any cons I should know about? My mom is especially excited by the idea of me being home for another year but my god I’m not sure if I can handle another year in Florida haha

@pubkid that sounds so cool! I hope it all works out

@flautamagica I want to be a cardiothoracic surgeon; if I need to specialize specialize, cardiac surgery. After my dad passed away from cardiac failure, it’s been my dream to make sure no little girl loses her dad like I did. Also, cutting people open for a living. Like, saving lives and PHYSICALLY FIXING PEOPLE…and they won’t annoy you because they’ll be under anesthesia. The best of both worlds!

I’ve been trying to start up some artificial mitral valve research, but I haven’t been able to find a professor willing to work with me. Underground lab, anyone?

@schroscat not sure if you watch Greys anatomy but if I wanted to do cardio thoracic surgery I would channel Cristina yang every damn day

Also if anyone watches house and needs entertainment, I’ve been watching this gif on repeat for an hour and haven’t stopped laughing (perhaps the madness has overtaken me)

@flautamagica My life goal is to be the hybrid of Yang and House. (My two favorite people)

…that gif. Sums up the entire 8 seasons of House impeccably. Oh my god.

@schroscat oh my god it’s like we’re twins haha

@schroscat @flautamagica feels left out jk its so cool that we are able to connect through CC

@flautamagica If we both get accepted, can we be roommates? I promise we can share books!

@schroscat lets do it! We can keep each other from dying with the pre med stresses haha
@tuty143 Don’t worry we can have a trio with two flutes and a snare drum and we’ll be set for life

@tuty143 This is the greatest website to exist for the über nerds.

@flautamagica @tuty143 The three-man band: starring flautas magicas and the snare.

@flautamagica We could eventually share a cardboard box together since we’ll be drowning in medical school loans. :’)

@schroscat two flutes and a snare sounds like a sitcom haha
