Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@NParker Yeah, not getting an interview if you’re from such an area is not the best sign…And don’t worry, there’s still time. Usually these interviews are done during mid/end of November.

yes- i emailed them again, this time with my reference number and they changed it!

@NParker oh God i’m in the same boat as you and idk how to get over it… :frowning:

i am incredibly anxious about my Harvard SCEA application outcome - I’ve never wanted anything so badly in my life! To me Harvard is such a great fit and I know I’ll be incredibly disappointed if I didn’t get in…

My child got into Harvard last December 11th and is now having a wonderful time there.

Hope you would have the same luck

Thanks @nowhow! We all appreciate it  Congrats to your child—it’s such a major accomplishment!

Thank you, RandomRhino !

@NParker Interviews are usually a good indication, but they’re usually conducted through to December so don’t feel deflated just yet. Some get interviewers contacting them the next day and some get them much later on, independent of when they have submitted their applications. If you are from a country that has many applying it may take longer because they need to read your application first and may not have gotten to it yet. Good luck!

I find it strange that this time last year the applicant thread was already 56 pages long with 825 posts. Last year early apps rose by 26%. I wonder if it means anything.

@Falcon1 Honestly if this is a sign that fewer people are applying SCEA, I’m totally cool with that. I may be wrong but fewer early round applicants could lead to a higher acceptance rate assuming they accept the same number of people SCEA!

@RandomRhino @Falcon1 Yeah, it sounds a little terrible when we say it like that, but let’s be honest – who’s not crossing their fingers that it’ll be a little easier to get in? I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends at school haven’t applied to Harvard since it’s restricted so that you can only apply to them early decision… maybe this is a nation-wide trend?

@Stephiey Well, at my school only one other person applied to Harvard SCEA because it’s restrictive so I’m hopeful it is in fact a nationwide trend! Or maybe I’m just such an amazing applicant that no one at my school wanted to compete with me??? (Don’t worry that’s a joke, it’s definitely not that :stuck_out_tongue: )

Harvard’s SCEA policy is the same as last year when application rose by 26% so it won’t likely result in fewer apps this year. The big change was that they made subject tests optional last year and also the admit rate was something like 20.4% the year before so a lot of people applied. Last year, the admit rate dropped to 16.5% so this year perhaps they won’t get another surge in applications. It’s hard to say.

Princeton already reported an increase of almost 10% in applications but they went subject test optional this year.

@chillipadi, HC is only one of the best colleges in the National. More than 94% applicants eventually get the rejection from HC. This is the fact faced by most if not all applicants. GL

@Falcon1 Hm, so maybe it’s possible that the admit rate will remain relatively stagnant because there was no change in admissions policy this year that would lead to more people than last year applying? Just speculation, of course.

And what exactly is Harvard’s SAT subject test stance? I get that it’s optional but is it really optional? (I mean, I just submitted my 2 best ones so it doesn’t affect me personally, but I’m curious if it’s one of those “you don’t technically have to, but you actually have to if you want a shot” type of things)

Serious question…

My math teacher just submitted her REC… But on my harvard portal it doesnt show it…
Is this because its sunday?? or what?

@RandomRhino Haha, you probably scared them off with your intellectual prowess. But yeah, I don’t think application numbers will be increasing in huge amounts based on what everyone else is saying… And yeah, this thread isn’t super lively.

Does anybody know if there’s information out on the application numbers for Harvard? Have they released any stats?

Actually, the more people applying to Harvard the better chances usually…

Can you explain? @BasedBioGod are they just more likely to admit when there are more apps coming in or…?

Okay people I need an answer to this: did your supplemental recommendation show up on your Harvard portal? The rec was sent from my school in the mail and I don’t see it on my portal anywhere. Thanks
