Hi,

So I'm interested in applying to the Harvard Secondary School Program for summer 2007. For those who are familiar with the program--exactly how competitive is it to get in? What do they want in their students when choosing them and what should I focus on in my app(ie. recs, the graded writing sample, etc)? I heard some rumor that they require PSAT scores for admission-is this true? Also, will going to the program and getting good grades in the classes I take help me even the slightest for when I apply to Harvard for college?

Thanks.

Wow your planning a year ahead (typical CC) haha, anyway I'm going to the program this summer. Its not competitve so you shouldn't worry about getting in. I don't know if it will help or hurt in the actuall college admissions process.

You could probably get a lot of information on the SSP website.

tennispro is right, it's not that selective a program. However, I should point out that selectivity (or lack thereof) is not an indicator of quality, but of demand. It is more helpful w. admissions than some other enrichment programs (like Explo) b.c. you are taking actual college courses for college credit. Be aware that your faculty will not be Harvard faculty, or if they are, they will be the lowest on the totem pole. However, if you can wrangle a rec from a prof, then it is far more valuable. Look for courses that are writing intensive, too.
