I have a feeling it's somewhere around a 99.998% rate of acceptance. But I think financial aid may be over, which could be painful.

I've heard a myriad of different number.s I'm lead to believe that the admissions rate hovers somewhere between 50 and 75%, probably about 2/3 of applicants are accepted.

What is a "Required Section"? For example in Chinese I, the lesson times are MW 6-8.30 and there are Required Sections T,Th 6-8.30

Are these required sections graded? Are they optional?

hey 662723
you take in the Chinese I?
where are you from?
You interested in chinese culture?

Sections are what other colleges call recitations. Yes, it is required and it is part of your grade. Sections in language classes help reinforce what you learned in lecture through drills and hands-on activities.

The sections are, in most courses, times for discusion in smaller units, with a teaching assistant or an equivalent. There's a review of the material covered in class, an opportunity for questions, etc.

In a language class, this would be pretty much the same, except, like in a maths class, etc., you'd do/check exercises together as a group. Are they graded? Depending on the course, your attendance may be graded, and the work you do inside (in the form of exercises, etc) may be graded.

The sections are always required unless it says 'optional section.' So, no, these are by no means optional.

Thanks, Prob wont take Chinese I seems a bit too intensive.

When are you notified of financial aid decisions?

heres what the ssp website has to say about financial aid

"Financial Aid

Please note: We have already awarded all of the financial aid funds available for SSP, and we are no longer processing any applications for financial aid.

SSP student financial aid is limited, and therefore early application is strongly advised. Only accepted students who are US citizens or permanent residents may receive financial aid. Awards are granted on the basis of academic merit, financial need, and availability. Preference is given to high school juniors.

SSP financial aid applications, including personal financial information, should be submitted to the SSP office only after a student has been accepted to the program. Completed financial aid applications are processed by the SSP on a rolling basis, but only as long as financial aid is available."

so it looks like its all gone

I really want to take trips too. Are there lots of opportunities to go places? Is it easier to go on the planned trips or get friends together and go?

Planned trips cost money. Going alone/with friends will probably cost less, but might take more coordinating.

How much are the planned trips aprox..?

according to past ssper on this forum, they charge minimal fees

trips range from $15-30 each, with nearby trips (to boston basically) at just a few dollars (T fee)

I just got my financial aid notification so now I'm able to go. I'll be taking CSCI-111a (Intensive Intro to Comp Sci w/Java) in Short Session 1.

Hey everybody. My name is George, and I'll be taking Beginning Fiction and Macroeconomics. I was born in Shanghai but I live in New Jersey today.

I'm in Canaday C-11, so any other Canaday-ans holla back :-P (especially those in C).

Btw, is there a gym or something close to the Yard where we can work out? I read about the Law School gym but are SSP students allowed to use it?
