Harvard Transfer (wannabes) Unite

yeah, I called on monday and they told me by the end of this week-however I called early this afternoon and they told me within one week- woteva they mean, I hope they still send out the e-mails tomorrow- anything short of that will be pure torture~

oh man..that was so funny hitmanultra! i have no doubt that they would rescind your rejection and accept you immediately just based on your witticism!

OK! I CALLED! They said, and I quote "within the next few business days . . ." to which I responded "but probably not tomorrow?" and she replied "it could be tomorrow, we're doing our best . . "

WOW ok so I guess there's still hope for a worry-free weekend . . .except for those waitlisted . . .

I don't think hitmanultra made that up...I've seen that same letter posted on this website atleast 5 times over the past few years. That one is a bit different, though; I've seen slightly better written/funnier ones.

Hey thanks for calling, Brian.

Just curious: why transfer into Penn from NYU if you did not like the school and want to now leave it?

NYU = no financial aid, originally wanted to go to Brown as transfer but they don't give financial aid either, and Penn gave me a lot, and I assumed that, Penn being an ivy league, I would find intellectually curious and well-humored people, but all I've found is a passive-agressive, unfriendly atmosphere. Now, I know you're thinking 'why do you think it'll be better at Harvard' but I have been there, gotten a different feeling from it, and also I want to go there for grad school. And going as an undergrad is actually a leg up in grad admissions - they like to perpetuate the Harvard experience and impact.

lol yeah, i didn't do that. Some guy named Paul Devliln did it and the New York Times appearently thought it was funny enough to publish it.

Yeah, I hear ya. I actually ended up withdrawing my NYU application due to the fact that I have absolutely no money, and I hear that they are difficult as all hell with aid. Plus I don't really like New York that much. I'm surprised that you don't like Penn kids, though. I spent four days for a Model UN conference there, and was very impressed with everyone that I met, very intelligent and just real people, down to earth. But, I only spent four days there, you've spent an entire semester haha. Are you planning on studying Philosophy in grad school?

This is very much incorrect. It is so much incorrect that it goes the other way around. Going to Harvard for undergrad will hurt your chances for grad school there.... unless you want to do law school.
Academic mobility is encouraged. If you want to go to Harvard Grad, go to Stanford for undergrad.

Yeah...I think I even remember reading a specific statement on the grad school admissions website once that they prefer to offer admission to those who have not yet had the opportunity to study at Harvard.

Well, it's 5 pm. No word from Harvard.

If they do actually get it out tomorrow, it will probably come at the last minute, and without a courteous prior notification. Oh well -- I'll take it. Anything's better than going through the weekend in extended purgatory during finals week.

Was there a courteous prior notification last year?

Yes. I'm fairly certain that there was, and that it was an email either the day before or a little earlier than that. Of course, there's the slight chance that I'm mixing it up with one of the other 6 schools I applied to last year, but how else could I have known exactly when it would be in my mailbox? I remember leaving that morning, and knowing that I would have to come back at a specific time that afternoon and it would be there.

This is giving me such a headache.

K. I'm going to just stick up a cabin in the middle of the woods in Vermont and write books and live humbly for the rest of my time on this earth. I shall also plant magnolias. To hell with academia. See you guys later!

Yes, and I shall herd sheep!

Yes, martini! You can come with me! And herd the sheep and round the cattle, and chop the wood for the fire as there will be no electricity, as I shall bake bread and apple pies over the brick oven stove and sew quilts and dolls for our twenty children. Oh what a life it shall be.

Regarding the other thread:

It was meant to provide a concise, cogent place for future applicants who read this forum. It is tedious to go through 40 pages of a thread searching for pertinent information. Your resentment is entirely unwarranted, and without any real underpinning.

I am sure you would all be ** very ** grateful if such a thread existed for the last admission cycle, as it would provide a wealth of information in a terse fashion. I fail to understand why you would not want to provide this service to future CCers...

I do hope so. For I will be singing it with great passion when my decision arrives.

yeah something about raindrops and gumdrops
