Harvard University Class of 2022 SCEA Applicants Thread

@MaybeHarvard2022 , thank you so much for the response. She has taken the SAT again, hoping for some improvement.

Is there anywhere we specify our specific major? On CA Harvard only asks what department we would like to study under.

Also do our answers to questions ranking things from 1 to 5 have a real impact on our decision?

Will only submitting one subject test hurt me if my other one isn’t relatively high (700+)?

Same thing. FYI Harvard has its own lingo. They do not call them majors; they are concentrations.

IMO, submitting only one will hurt you. Submitting one < 700 will hurt you. Which will hurt you more? Well, that’s the $65,609 question, I guess.

No, they are just trying to get a feel for who you are. They know that many students plans change over time.

In terms of subject tests, if I have 3 quality scores, should I send in all 3 or just my top 2?

While I doubt it will make a difference, go ahead and send all 3.

How do you know that it’s 700/710? I searched the entire Harvard website and there’s nothing!

Aaaaahhhhhh I submitted yesterday

does anyone know if harvard looks at or asks for progress reports if your school uses a semester grading scale?

They will ask your counselor for a mid-year and final report. It will be relevant for deferred applicants and for purposes of possible rescissions for accepted students if your grades fall off a cliff.

I’m kind of freaking out, would you guys like to look at my scores and ECs

Anyone have an estimate of how much Harvard is planning to decrease admission rates by (ie if your counselors have talked to admissions officers, etc.)?

I got a 650 on Spanish sat II and 660 on Literature sat II. are these bad enough to ruin my chances?

@maralyn99 No, subject test scores aren’t the end all be all. If you have a strong profile in everything else, they will be of little consequence.

Well, the admissions rate will depend upon the number of applications, but Harvard is planning on accepting fewer applicants. They did not (and will not, IMO) further quantify, at least not before RD decisions are released.

@skieurope thanks! butalsorip

On another note, how long will it take after the application is submitted through the Common App for Harvard to send Student Portal login information?

It was almost immediate.

So I am planning on majoring in Environmental Science and Public Policy and was wondering which SAT 2 scores to submit:
Chemistry 800
Math 2 780
Bio 750
USH 750

I was planning on submitting the first two, but not sure about the last two (which I took sophomore year)
