Harvard

A friend's stats. Harvard is his top choice. What do you think of his chances for early action?

SAT (1 Seating)
780 CR
800 M
800 W

SAT II
U.S. History 800
Chemistry: 790
Math IIC 780

Course Load: Has taken the hardest course load-5 Aps so far (all jr year) hopefully he got all 5's- at most he got one 4

Grading Scale
95-100= A
90-94= A-

He got all A's except for one A- in freshmen year world history

His rank should be around 6/400

ECs:
Varsity Soccer (captain)
Varsity Track
Editor in Chief of School Paper
Science Olympiad (captain)
Worked as a CIT at a sleepaway camp

His school (a competitive public hs in NJ) usually has 2-4 people accepted to harvard each year.

he obviously has a chance

i know... but how good of a chance does he have? Could you give a percent?

25... its a crapshoot for anyone...

yes he has a chance academic-wise, but his ECs are pretty weak looking. I think he has as good of a shot as anyone, and his test scores are great...except Math IIC, he should definitely retake since the curve is so crazy...nothing less than an 800 on that one.

it is really impossible to give a specific %age for the likelihood of acceptance to any ivy league school. he is an all-around good candidate, but it is also good to keep in mind that there are probably another 100 candidates with scores exactly like his, if not better. (CC has proven thus)

apply ea if he's really serious about it, and simply: pour your heart and soul into your app. the adcoms are not machines, they don't process numbers like clockwork.

one thing that i am confused about is how u guys claim his ecs are weak.... two varsity sports jr and sr year!!! (played jv in both sports frosh and soph year)... and then being ediotr in chief takes up soooooo much of his time. and then hes captain of the sci o also. i mean, he might not have s lot of ecs but he does have leadership positions which take up time. in fact, hes so busy he rarely has time to chill, lol!!!

no those ECs are badass for most schools, but if you check out the kids going to Harvard, their ECs are insane...like I changed the world at 15 insane.

His are really good, but they're not standout for Harvard.

well idk... no one at his school has ever changed the world or had ecs much better than his, but somehow 2-4 people get into harvard each year.

well thats really good...from what i've read on CC most ppl getting in are quite...amazing.

But he's got a good enough shot anyways, especially with those grades.

Not bad, those are killer scores. His EC's are good and there's leadership, it's quality not quantity that count!

bump bump bump

It's useless to try to base something as complex as admissions on percentages--in the end you're either waitlisted, accepted or rejected. There's no way to see how accurate a percentage is cause it's only one shot. Your friend has as good a chance as any potential top candidates applying, but that chance isn't high.

Whatchadoing is the person who has these stats, I guess?

nope..my friend just doesn;t have a cc account

bump.........
