has anyone attended cornell days before?

i'm going to visit on the 19th and i requested an overnight stay with a host as well :) it's my first time on the east coast (i'm from CA) and i'm excited. has anyone gone to cornell days before...tips, must-dos, questions to ask, etc? all info is much appreciated!

Yes i would like to know about this too! Im going from the 15th to the 16th. It says to “plan” your day with tours and sessions if you click on the “plan your day” link in the confirmation email, but what are your options? Also, are you supposed to plan your day with events for the first or second day. I also know that after this wednesday April 11th, there are no tours and information sessions until the 23rd. So what are you supposed to do? Can you get into academic buildings? Do they have special tours/events specifically for the students staying overnight?
=) very excited to visit!

I will be visiting from 4/12-414. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Other than a campus tour, see if your host will allow you to come to one of their classes. I don’t think there are any “must-dos” considering you will be a student and will get around to it. Don’t worry about doing everything and just enjoy the campus. Maybe buy some Cornell swag :)

Uh there is a schedule for Cornell Days, but I’m not entirely sure you have to follow it.
http://admit.cornell.edu/sites/default/files/Weekday%20Overview.pdf

I have a few questions also…
Can you parents come with you to visit classes? It seems like classes would fill up rather fast if everyone did this…or would they just stay in the lounge for an hour or so?
And is the schedule tentative?

I don’t think you have to follow the schedule. Also, you don’t necessarily need to go to one of the pre-approved classes for Cornell Days. Maybe don’t bring your parents, but if your host is willing to bring you that should be fine, especially for large lecture classes where they won’t notice if you’re there.

So if you don’t bring your parent to class? Where do you leave them? They ARE coming to cornell days… so what do they do when you are sitting in a class?

In my email they attached an agenda specifically for parents. It was pretty long and they have many options to choose from.

Your overnight stay’s quality really depends on your student host - hopefully you get a good one!

Colene, did you ever attend the Cornell Days? If so, would you mind sharing the experience a little?

Mine was a bit personal i should say… best for you to experience yours!

My D loved Cornell days. She had a good host. My husband went with her, and did some tours with her, but left her on her own a lot of the time. Her host had all sorts of evening activities planned where she got to see a lot of campus that use had not seen before. They also went into college town and visited a lot of popular hangouts. She also got to see how collaborative things are in the dorms— doors open, people dropping in to say hi or to get help with homework.

They liked the engineering tours and some of the parent and student Q and A sessions. She also went to a Society of Women Engineers gathering. They climbed the bell tower, walked over all of the pretty bridges, went to a concert, visited the horse barn, visited the ornithology lab and walked through sapsucker woods. Oh and played the xylophone with rocks near the library, which is really cool by the way.

She ended up being a host her freshman year in order to pay it forward.
