Got rejected today.
I can’t say that I was too shocked because I live in Norcal and they favor the local kids.
My stats were pretty average.
3.6 GPA
31 ACT composite with a 34 on Math
I wasn’t really a fan of the CSU application. I have so much to say about myself in my applications and the CSU one was so plain and statistical. Luckily I got into UT-Austin and University of Michigan for engineering which were my top 2 choices. It just seems crazy that SDSU is as selective as some of the best schools in the country.

They must have had a lot of local this year! Congrats on the others. did you apply to cal poly, too?

@BusiMex Business Admin with a concentration in finance but I am looking to change to accounting when I get over there in the Fall.

Yeah I did. I never really had any interest in it though because it seems like everyone from my school goes there. I know my GPA isn’t really competitive for Cal poly and SDSU but I am dyslexic so getting C’s in spanish for 3 years and struggling in english has really brought me down even though Im fairly intelligent. Theres just no way of the college to see who I really am.

Well, that’s the nice thing about the UCs…at least you get to write essays and tell them more about you!

I dont really anticipate getting into a UC if I cant get into the CSUs. Im not really bummed at all because now im pretty much positive that Im going to Michigan next year!

69,000+ applicants, 7,000 acceptances. Crazy numbers.

My question is:

Hypothetically, if there are applicants with the same GPAs, same SAT scores from the same school, having taken the same classes, applying “undeclared”, and one gets in and the other doesn’t, what other factors are they looking at? Or why kids with lower gpas and SATs get in over more qualified applicants. (is it economic status? race?) It seems so random, but I’m sure it’s not.

@karenee: I just figure that since so many local applicants have been rejected, and with good stats too, as an OOS my chances must be tiny.

Anyone know if they update the web portal once a day? twice? all day?

My S denied yesterday his first rejection. Accepted at Seattle University, Chico State and Southern Methodist University. Waiting on Cal Poly SLO, and 4 UC’s. I know SDSU gives local service area students extra points and with all the people who applied it was going to be unlikely he would get in (Engineering). WGPA - 3.5, 8 AP, SAT 1270/1910.

Thank you for applying to San Diego State University. After carefully reviewing your application, we are unable to offer you admission for the fall 2012 semester. Admission to SDSU is highly competitive and this year we received over 69,000 applications for 7,603 undergraduate enrollee slots.

Congrats to those who got in and good luck to those yet to hear. Don’t worry if you don’t get in everything happens for a reason…my belief.

D was denied admission today. 3.5, 28 ACT, in state, not in SDSU service area. Fortunately she a was already accepted to a school she preferred so she isn’t upset.

Spoke to friends/family and 3 students all from OC area (2 private prep school, 1 public school) rejected. GPA ranged from 3.4 to 3.9, ACT 23 to 28, undeclared majors and psych.

Denied for Biochem
GPA: 3.94
SAT: 1550

Was accepted 03/02
(Applied mid-October I believe).

Transfer student from CCC.
Major: Political Science
Transfer GPA: 3.51
Have all pre-resq, except one (guess it didn’t matter)

I was accepted back in late December. 32 ACT, 3.92 weighted GPA capped. 3.96 uncapped.
Good luck to all those still waiting on a decision :)

Oh and I applied for the major biological sciences.

SDSU hasn’t send me anything. I tried creating a account in the webportal, but it wouldn’t let me. Everytime i try, it says i have to be a “active student” for at least a year. I even called SDSU and they “fixed” my account, and yet I still can’t log on. I don’t really want to call again, because when i called, they put me on hold for 1 hour… : /

apparently my application is complete?? what does that mean?? . i applied to long beach, cal poly slo, cal poly pomona and some other random state schools cuz my aunt made me. anyways i got in and i think i might visit.
