hmmmmmm.....im a valectorian at my school (well not "officially" yet because the year isnt over...) with a 4.2 accumalitive...4.4 for the semester... and i got a 980 on my sat and a 25 on my act....haha....so it is possible...but i think i get away with being valectorian because half my class is on drugs/steroids and the other half just dont do anything...im not taking stellar AP calc classes (math is DEFNTLY not my subject-didnt even take pre-cal)...although i am taking ap gov, econ, and psych....but still- doubt those are more rigorous than the ap calc's etc....and i have community service buts its not "nationwide recognized" or even state wide for that matter...i have bout 150 hrs....which is "Distinguished" recognition....ohhhhh how nice...............................oh and i did get recruited for soccer but the only thing the coach could do was put me on his "list". so who knows...i did early decision but got deferred....sound like its at all possible i could get in?

man i didnt even SPELL valedictorian right...im screwed

um ... just cuz u r the "valecdictorian" of a crappy school doesn't make it easier to get into cornell

look at it this way: good grades from a crappy school is insignificant when looking at a good school with good grades

colleges particularly look at this

Your GPA is so high but that does not even correlate to your SAT score
4.2-4.4 gpa vs. 980 SAT

i still think you can make cornell if u have strong essays and you r an underprivileged student ... i.e. parents living in poverty, mexican immigrant

even closing your eyes and blinding guessing on the SAT anyone can get higher than a 1100

This is a stupid but honest question----

How do I get recruited at Cornell for soccer? Please help!!

Damn you guys are slaves to the SAT

All the SAT does is measure your ability to answer a combination of math and verbal questions in a rushed period of time.
Now they added a rushed first draft essay. its really ridiculous

I feel sorry for you guys because you look at SAT scores and try to judge someone's potential based off of that. Its really sad.

Another thing you guys never talk about is that the quality of teachers is usually lower at inner-city schools. I go to an inner-city school in L.A. and I will tell you that over the past four years in math two of my teachers were first-year teachers without credentials. Its an epidemic in inner-city schools but many of you guys know nothing about this because most of you guys are blessed to be in a better situation. For me, I have been lucky because I am the type of student who can study by myself without relying on a teacher. Unfortunately, most students need the help of a qualified teacher in order to understand the material. You guys speak like there is a level playing field. Let me tell you that the policies of the current administrations (Ahhhnold and Bush) have really hurt California schools in the inner-city. Some of the best teachers might be leaving because things are so bad. There is a shortage of college counselors at my school as well (five or six counselors for 3000 students). I guess I can't expect you guys to truly understand because you have never experienced that before.

Anyway that's my two cents.

what a coincidence!! I got 1180 (700m, 480v) but I'm int'l (257toefl) . I hope a miracle happens 'n I get accepted. rd-->cas

I disagree with you in that you think SATs aren't important. I believe they are and they are crucial to the admittance process. However, I do agree with you that sometimes we (and even me) are so very carried away with good scores. Also when I talked with admission officers from al schools, they told me they judge your academic credentials based on your school and school mates. If your school doesn't offer many AP classes they won't hold it against you. But what have you done in spite of this? Did you take classes at a local college? Or did you do like King and study and rise above your classmates? The best thing is to explain it to the admission officers w/o worrying that it'll make you look bad. good luck everyone

I got into CALS ED with an 1180 (600M,580V). My friend got in also to the AEM program ED with a 1090 and 3.5.

are you in NY?

hippology, what was your friends hook? just wondering because i was deferred from aem and i really don't know what to expect from them.

hey, update me if you will if north hunterdon comes up!

What were your stats when you were deferred anny?

uclover8

that was SO mean
just-letting-you-know

a lot of people are just poor test takers.

In all honestly, I agree with his S.A.T. comment....I don't believe in the "bad test taker" notion. While the S.A.T. is by no means a perfect testament to one's intelligence, it does measure it to an extent. With that said, getting below a 1000 is simply embarrassing.

You can't get an 1100 guessing tho, that's silly.

I heard you the first time.

it was just a double post by accident

I might be able to get an 1100 by guessing, I once guessed an entire economics test and totally owned probability
