I was admitted to the University of Florida through the PaCE program, and I was wondering if anyone has been successful in appealing their PaCE admission decision to be switched to regular enrollment? I do have new and compelling evidence as to why this program would not work for me, as I have too many undergraduate credits done to be a part of PaCE. I called the admissions office today and they recommended that due to my situation I should call next week and request the option to appeal my admission decision. It seems like there isn’t a great amount of information about this program and I would love to hear the experiences of others who have been in a similar situation, and if anyone has been able to do so.
We tried two years ago with my daughter, and they did not accept any term change requests that year. She ended up attending FSU, which was absolutely the right decision for her.
Thank you for your reply! I’m definitely considering FSU, but want to try to appeal, as UF has always been my top choice. That’s a shame that they weren’t accepting any term change requests. Did they tell her that after waiting a whole month to see if the appeal was accepted, or quickly after she sent in the request?
@123ksl - It is usually around May 1st or even after before students hear about most term change requests. Part of the consideration is whether we even have the space available in the class to move students.
Thanks for the information. Yes, I was told over the phone that in around a week I should request an appeal. Is appealing a PaCE admission the same process as appealing a rejection? Or is it a similar process to requesting a term change? Thank you.
In our experience, it was a term change request, not an appeal. Because you were admitted to UF, you can’t appeal. My daughter did not find out until the last week of April that UF would not be moving anyone from Pace to traditional. She had changed her intended major between application and acceptance, and it was not a Pace major (Communication Processes and Disorders, Speech Pathology/Audiology), so she could not do the Pace program. She ended up taking her Freshman Scholarship at FSU, and is now admitted to her major a year early, so she made the right choice for her.
Wow, I’m in almost an identical situation- I switched my intended major to the same exact one! I’m starting to wonder if I should wait all that time on the appeals process or just commit to FSU, as their Speech Pathology program is just as good as UF’s and they’re offering me the freshman scholarship. It’s hard coming from a gator family, but at the end of the day that’s insignificant. Thank you for sharing your experience!
We are a Gator family as well, and my daughter LOVES FSU (and so do we). She’s in her major now, a year ahead of schedule, and the professors and the program there is top notch. Let me know if want to connect with her, and I can send you her Snapchat. I still think PaCE can be great, if your major is included, and if you are self motivated, but it wasn’t the right choice for her.
